Spam (electronic)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Spamming Spamming is the use of any electronic communications medium to send unsolicited messages in bulk. While its definition is usually limited to indiscriminate bulk mailing and not any targeted marketing, the term "spam" can refer to any commercially oriented, unsolicited bulk mailing perceived as being excessive and undesired. In the popular eye, the most common form of spam is that delivered in e-mail as a form of commercial advertising . However, over the short history of electronic media, people have done things comparable to spamming for many purposes other than the commercial, and in many media other than e-mail. Spammers have developed a variety of spamming techniques, which vary by media: e-mail spam instant messaging spam Usenet newsgroup spam Web search engines spam ... weblogs spam , and mobile phone messaging spam The name Spamming derives from the Monty Python Spam sketch about a diner which specializes in dishes made from SPAM brand processed meat, where at one point four Viking patrons in the diner began singing praises about SPAM which violently drowns out the normal dialogue in the sketch, hence SPAMming the dialogue. Spamming is economically viable because advertisers have effectively no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists. Because the

Soc.singles FAQ, long version, available at http://www.trygve.com/ssfaq-long.html
No personal ads. No commercial ads. No whining.
  • Soc.singles is a discussion group. Newsgroups and websites intended for personal ads are down the hall and to the left. There are dozens of them; posting your personal ad to soc.singles will only convince potential mates who might otherwise have been interested that you're a clueless dork. Commercial ads will annoy your intended market and are likely to result in complaints to your service provider. There are newsgroups suitable for commercial ads; use them instead. Whine at your own risk. Your readers will let you know if they think you're whining and should just get over it. Don't take yourself or this newsgroup too seriously. If you find your blood pressure rising or you feel the urge to attack or threaten other writers, turn off your computer, return your tray table to its upright and locked position, take three deep breaths, and go play outside.
Finally, don't forget that while you are conversing with real people on the other side of your monitor, they are likely to be more bold and blunt than they are in real life because they can be. Expect to have your leg pulled, your chain yanked, and your goat gotten. Write stupid and angry responses at your own risk: you never know who else is reading and it'll only encourage people who get off on seeing just how much they can annoy you. For external use only, if rash persists, discontinue use and consult a physician.

4. General Information about Linux Networking.
4.1 A brief history of Linux Networking Kernel Development.
The original volunteer to lead development of the kernel network code was Ross Biro . Ross produced a simple and incomplete but mostly usable implementation set of routines that were complemented by an ethernet driver for the WD-8003 network interface card. This was enough to get many people testing and experimenting with the software and some people even managed to connect machines in this configuration to live internet connections. The pressure within the Linux community driving development for networking support was building and eventually the cost of a combination of some unfair pressure applied to Ross and his own personal commitments outweighed the benefit he was deriving and he stepped down as lead developer. Ross's efforts in getting the project started and accepting the responsibility for actually producing something useful in such controversial circumstances were what catalyzed all future work and were therefore an essential component of the success of the current product. Orest Zborowski produced the original BSD socket programming interface for the Linux kernel. This was a big step forward as it allowed many of the existing network applications to be ported to linux without serious modification.

General information about Newsgroup
Newsgroup
A newsgroup is a place to post messages in a bulletin board fashion. Different newsgroups are housed on a news server. Basically a newsgroup is a collection of e-mails if you would like to think of it that way. The newsgroups are organized in a hierarchal system based on subject matter. An example would be: sci.astronomy The sci portion of the name signifies the general topic of the newsgroup and the astronomy part represents the primary topic of the newsgroup.
Thread
A thread can be thought of as a discussion. In essence, it is a series of replies to a message that was posted to the newsgroup.
What can newsgroups do for me?
Newsgroups have many useful functions. One such function is the discussion of topics pertaining to your interests. A newsgroup is a also place where answers can be found to questions you post. You can also usually find out information in advance in your field of interest since many of the people who post to these groups are experts in their field, and then there are those who think they are. Another use of newsgroups is for announcement purposes. Then there is always the ultimate use of a bulletin board system; sales. Some newsgroups' posters will post items for sale. This is sometimes called "spam".

2. General information
2.1 What info about Contax is available on the Web?
Probably more than I'm aware of. Here's a list:
  • I'm maintaining a mailing list, the Yashica/Contax SLR list. You can subscribe to the list by sending a mail to majordomo@cdegroot.com with in the body the line: subscribe yashicacontax-slr I've also dedicated a part of my homepage to the topic. Information on the mailing list and the FAQ is over there and more might be added in the future. In January 1999, a competing Contax list was started for some reason. It covers mostly the same topics as the Yashica/Contax SLR list (officially it excludes Yashica, but I think that's an inevitable topic). You can find it at http://www.mailinglist.net/contax On the Usenet, these newsgroups are relevant:
    • rec.photo.equipment.35mm , about 35mm equipment in general. Lots of this is of course about the big brands, but you'll find something about Contax as well, occasionally. rec.photo.marketplace , where buyers and sellers meet. Contax stuff is regularly offered over here.
Information about the current line of contax SLR products can be found on Kyocera's Contax Website An awful lot of information on photography in general is available from the mother of all photo FAQs
