Newsgroup Information Selected Links Deja Critical Path Usenet Info Center Launch Pad USENET Newsgroups are frequently called electronic bulletin boards. Readers join topic-centered groups and post and respond to messages. Since newsgroup messages are distributed by a central server at your school, you can browse through a number of groups without the investment required of e-mail discussion lists. The news server at your school will determine which groups are available to you, but in general there are three basic types: (1.) Newsfeed groups which compile articles from professional newswires. (2.) Social groups devoted mostly to conversation. (3.) Hybrid groups which contain conversation, scholarly postings and news articles. Newsgroups are organized under several large headings, For example, under the prefix talk there are groups devoted to debating issues like gun control, politics and religion. Some servers have newsfeed organized under a clari heading. Other groups are organized under the

From: mwg@saltmine.radix.net Newsgroups: alt.support.asthma alt.med.allergy sci.med http://www.radix.net/~mwg/asthma-gen.html ... misc.kids . I highly recommend it! I also strongly recommend the following guidelines: the "Global Initiative for Asthma", the "NHLBI Executive Summary: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma", and the "Executive Summary: Management of Asthma during Pregnancy" (full citations in References section). They may be ordered in the U.S. by calling (301) 251-1222 and asking for publication numbers 95-3659, 94-3042A, and 93-3279A, respectively. When I ordered them, and asked that they be sent to a US address, there was no charge. Another set of guidelines which has been recommended to me but which I haven't seen myself yet is "NAEPP. Nurses: Partners in Asthma Care", publication number 95-3308, which I assume is also available at the number given above. The newsgroup misc.kids also has an allergy and asthma FAQ, which is available either by following the instructions posted on misc.kids.info

Scope of this FAQ
A few of the newgroups listed have short descriptions that evidently were added by persons other than the proponents. Suggestions for additions to this FAQ are most welcome. Many thanks to those who saw earlier versions of this FAQ and added to or corrected the information posted earlier. And special thanks to the persons who wrote suggesting that I post a copy of this FAQ on the World Wide WebI have now done so here, http://learninfreedom.org/ed-newsgroups.html at my Web site, which has links to other information about on-line resources for self-education. Some of the newsgroups listed here are very inactive (possibly because they are not carried at many sites). Some are very active, with verifiable frequent postings from multiple countries. But in general the proportion of all Internet users who discuss issues on Usenet has been declining since 1997 as Web-based discussion boards and E-mail mailing lists have become more popular. For a more up-to-date picture of where people discuss education issues on-line, see this site's Discussion Groups about Education Reform and Home-Schooling page.

It is a sound compression format that can create near CD-quality sound files while maintaining a small file size. For more technical information on the MP3 format see What newsgroups does this FAQ apply to? This FAQ covers the entire alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 hierarchy and includes, but is not restricted to, the following: alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 - The Binary posting group (also known as the "main" group). This group is for the posting of binary sound files that are in the MP3 format. This group is NOT for the posting of text, requests, or ftp site announcements. The exceptions are: postings of this document, FAQ tips, zero-files (a.k.a. (0/x)), and brief follow-ups as needed to alert posters to problems or to urge them towards these guidelines. Other non-musical exceptions are cover art/insert scans, and .nfo files. Players, encoders, and other sound utilities should be posted in the appropriate group: alt.binaries.sounds.utilities.

Newsgroups - Overview
Newsgroups by product General information
iAnywhere has established a series of newsgroups as a vehicle for users to help each other by exchanging problems, solutions, information, and ideas.
Volunteers monitor these newsgroups and generally the most visible of these are members of Team Sybase. Team Sybase is an exclusive group of Sybase "super users" who regularly answer questions and offer advice and expertise to participants within the community. Occasionally members of iAnywhere or Sybase's technical staff will monitor these groups as well.
If your issue is urgent, or requires continuous involvement from someone knowledgeable in the product, please open a technical support case through you local Technical Support Center
To ensure that we all receive the greatest benefit from this forum, we have a few guidelines concerning its use:
  • Don't hesitate to ask simple questions. People get a sense of accomplishment when they can answer them.
