Albany - Three workers were hurt as they scrambled to get out of the way of a 3,600-pound concrete block that came off the state Capitol. Workers were using a crane when a gust of wind ensnared the machine's strap underneath the block, causing the crane arm to pull it off its perch. The most seriously injured worker hurt a leg and his back. The Capitol is being refurbished. Thursday, September 22
Albany - The state Health Department proposed a regulation requiring hospitals to provide translation services for the 20 most popular languages in their region. Advocacy groups say the need is pressing in a state where one in five residents is foreign-born. Hospitals often rely on bilingual children or family members to interpret, which can be risky, advocates say.
