Available Free To All New York State K-12 Schools

All programming is designed specifically for use in the classroom, covering every subject area and K-12 grade level, and is correlated to New York State Learning Standards. Supplementary activity guides and activity worksheets are also available online with ideas of how to best use the video.
"WXXI Video On-Demand is a fantastic resource,” says Jim Ellis, District Technology Coordinator at Avon Central Schools in Avon, New York. “All the programs assist in teaching to state learning standards. All the videos are up to date and very pertinent to the subject areas we teach. I really like how the programs apply subject materials to real world situations."
As many school districts face difficult budget challenges, this free service becomes a necessity. "Since the Rochester City District no longer has a videotape library, due to the budget crisis, Video On-Demand is the only opportunity for a library of media resources to be made available to our schools," explains Linda Cruttenden, School Library System Director for Rochester City School District. Through WXXI, all K-12 schools within the 11-county area have free access to the service through school-based usernames and passwords.

The forums are part of a series being conducted to promote high performance school design and construction practices for K-12 schools in New York State. High performance school design integrates natural daylight, indoor air quality, energy efficiency and other features to create a school building that runs efficiently, saves money, protects natural resources and provides superior visual, acoustical and thermal comfort. “We’re pleased to co-sponsor these forums because it gives school board members, administrators and others responsible for building and operating our schools a look at what could be and should be,” said Eugene W. Zeltmann, president and chief executive officer of the Power Authority. “Our children can only benefit from learning in “Healthy” schools.”
