Introduction
For today's senior executives, understanding the flow of financial resources is crucial. Such an understanding is needed daily, whether it is used to obtain funding, anticipate trends, or evaluate company performance. Senior executives from nonfinancial backgrounds often are called upon to make decisions based on modern financial controls, and they must have the know-how to asses the output of the financial systems that have a significant impact on their professional responsibilities. The Finance for Senior Executives program provides business leaders with a deeper understanding of corporate finance as practiced by today's best run companies. Designed specifically for nonfinancial executives, this intensive program approaches the subject of finance as it relates to the corporation as a whole. Participants develop an understanding of how to read and react to capital markets, identify sources of system stress and maintain financial equilibrium, as well as evaluate market strategies and rank investment proposals. Most important, they acquire the tools and insights necessary to meet both their own professional goals and the larger goals of the organizations that they serve.

Financial Assistance to Business Program (FAB) About FAB The Financial Assistance to Business (FAB) Program was created by the Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act of 1996. The FAB program helps businesses cope with the cost of complying with environmental protection mandates. EFC administers this program with the assistance and approval of local governments. EFC is in the process of awarding some of the $60 million of Bond Act funds available under this program. Section 56-0611 of the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL) allocated $30 million "for small business compliance assistance projects which enhance the quality of the air of the state through compliance with environmental laws and regulations, or by remedy or prevention of environmental deficiencies." Similarly, the Bond Act contained $30 million for projects to enhance water quality. The FAB Air and Water Programs are described below. For more information on FAB Regulations click here Current FAB Programs FAB Water Program The Financial Assistance to Business (FAB) Water Program provides funding to help businesses and water suppliers, including municipalities on behalf of business, to increase and improve the quality of water supplies and/or wastewater treatment facilities. Projects that are located in villages, towns, and cities with a population of less than one million people and that demonstrate an environmental or public health benefit are eligible to apply. Funding for this program is made possible by Governor Pataki's 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act.

PR Society Offers 'Financial Management 101' Program for PR Professionals NEW YORK, NY (May 16, 2003) - The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), in cooperation with Syracuse University, will sponsor a two-part program this summer designed to provide communicators with a basic understanding of financial reporting and financial management strategy to improve their counsel to senior corporate executives. Called "Account-Ability: Critical Financial Communications Skills for Today's Practitioner," the program includes two one-day seminars June 19 and Aug. 21 in New York City at Syracuse University's Lubin House on how to read and interpret basic financial statements. A second part of the program, which demonstrates how to become a more strategic thinker and leader within an organization, will run Aug. 22-23 at the same location. "It has never been more important for public relations practitioners to know all they can about corporate finance," said Reed Bolton Byrum, APR, 2003 PRSA president and CEO. "At a time when public relations professionals are trying to get their organizations to be more open and candid about business and financial practices, they're also faced with new and dramatic constraints on what corporations can say and when they can say it."

Cornell Cooperative Extension Week and National 4-H Week Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts Our hearts and minds are with the people who live in the Gulf Coast States who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event has already been described as the worst natural disaster in our nation's history. People across the country are asking what they can do to help in this time of need. While the geographic distance between the Empire State and the Gulf Coast is great, all of us can provide direct and appropriate assistance to those so adversely affected. The best and most direct way to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is through monetary donations. If you wish to contribute to the relief effort, the National Donations Steering Committee has developed information for people interested in supporting disaster relief efforts Cornell Cooperative Extension is part of the national Cooperative Extension System and a member of the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN). EDEN is a collaboration of land grant university extension professionals who use educational tools to reduce the impact of disasters and emergencies. The network's role is to link extension educators from across the United States so they can share resources to reduce the impact of disasters while making the information locally specific.
