Editorial Interns
Editorial interns work 2-5 days a week, assisting senior staff with reporting and research. Interns are also encouraged to pitch and write their own stories, which vary from short items (150 words) to longer magazine features (1000-3000 words). Published clips and knowledge of New York City a must. Areas of interest include: politics, housing, criminal justice, education and economic development. The internship is unpaid, but interns are paid freelance rates for published stories.

The NLPA Student and Professional Development subdivision is designed to recruit, retain, and ultimately assist with the graduation and professional advancement of Latina/o students, faculty, and staff in higher education pursuing the field of psychology. More specifically, the goal is to facilitate: (1) student development and (2) professional development. Student development targets both undergraduate and graduate students in pursuit of educational excellence. The professional development efforts targets academicians and practitioners throughout the entire professional career span (early, mid and late). This division endeavors to: Specific programming ideas include: developing a coordination events calendar for the association;developing a mentoring program that will provide peer and professional mentorship for Latina/o students and faculty (e.g., sponsoring roundtables at conferences); establishing NLPA chapters across university and college campuses; helping to organize regional 1-day conferences; and developing web sites focusing on graduate programs and scholars who have specialties in Latina/o issues and summer institutes and employment for students; and a Recognition Program for students, professionals and programs. Now is the time to get involved in setting up these program!

Regarding the clinical utility of wound cultures, 24 (57%) correctly answered that wound cultures are not useful 42,43; 8 (19%) thought cultures are clinically useful for wounds with surrounding cellulitis. Twenty-two (52%) were unaware that amyloidosis, meningitis, or squamous cell carcinoma are reported complications of PrUs.44,45 DISCUSSION Despite broad exposure to patients with PrUs in many clinical settings and opportunities for interchange with nurses and surgeons, this group of geriatric fellows felt only "adequately" prepared to lead and teach an interdisciplinary team about PrUs. The mean score for the cohort on the knowledge test was below 70%, suggesting that content knowledge of this cohort is below what an attending physician specializing in geriatrics would need in order to teach residents on an inpatient unit.

    NCSL's 2002 Fall Forum will be critical and exciting in several respects. It will mark the transition from the old to the new committee structure-and will give participants plenty of opportunity to learn more about the new committees and help shape their planning for the coming year. The meeting also will occur just weeks before the beginning of most state legislative sessions and of the new 108 th Congress. The Fall Forum will look ahead to the issues that will dominate the agendas for state legislatures and Congress in 2003. Concentration: Liberal Arts Thank you for your interest in the jointly registered "2 plus 2" education program between SUNY Oneonta and Mohawk Valley Community College. Acceptance into SUNY Oneonta is contingent upon the completion of specific courses approved for the Liberal Arts/General Education A.S. degree from Mohawk Valley Community College and a minimum grade point average of 2.8. Eligible students must apply for admission to SUNY Oneonta during their final semester at MVCC pending graduation.     Gale Spak spak@njit.edu Gale Tenen Spak is Associate Vice President of Continuing and Distance Learning Education at New Jersey Institute of Technology, a public research university enrolling 8,800 bachelor’s through doctoral students in 80 degree programs and another 10,000 professionals in continuing education programs. She oversees the NJIT Division of Continuing Professional Education, which is responsible for ACCESS/NJIT Distance Learning Programs, Extension Programs, Graduate Certificate Programs, Professional Development Short Courses, Customized Corporate Training and Instructional Technology and Media Services. She has extensive experience in management and in the development, marketing, funding, evaluation and implementation of professional workforce development and continuing education programs involving collaborations among academe, industry, and government; and utilizing, as appropriate, online instruction. Under her leadership, 20% or nearly 4,000 NJIT students now enroll in online programs experiencing a quality “virtual classroom®,” which is a term coined by NJIT in the 1980’s. Prowess in this area is one reason why NJIT has been named America’s “Perennially Most Wired” university for four consecutive years, according to Yahoo! Internet Life magazine rankings.
