New Year's Day home crafts
Here's a picture of what I made yesterday (I wrote, too!).
"But," you say, "it's only a pillow. A humble little navy blue paisley pillow."
And yes, it is little. About 8 inches by 9 inches, made from a scarf I had lying around. What you can't see is that it is stuffed with the (washed, dried) pits of nearly every Bing and Mount Rainier cherry I ate in 2004. I love cherries. I think that Acerola cherries aren't related to the others, and their papery pits would be no good in this type of pillow, but when I can get them, I love those, too. (Acerola cherries are wonderfully tart eaten perfectly ripe just off the bush. You can stew the green ones in sweetener and spices (nutmeg, allspice, ginger) to make a deep maroon preserve in syrup.)
Anyway, the pillow is full of cherry pits. Put it into the microwave on medium for three to four minutes and you get this lovely hot pack for aching muscles and cavorting menstrual wombs. It stays warm for a good half hour. When it's hot, it smells a little bit like roasting chestnuts. I saw one of these in the health food store for $19.00 Cdn. And yes, the wags among you will be tempted to point out that mine was made from at least $70 worth of cherries. But I would have bought the cherries anyway, and in past years, I've thrown away the pits.

    KURT SAXON ON SURVIVAL:
Kurt Saxon, owner of Atlan Formularies, is the father of Survivalism. He coined the word. For years he's collected knowledge on trades, crafts, cottage industries and survival skills from a past when our immediate ancestors had to do for themselves on a day to day basis. His work is in anticipation of a time when our overcrowded and down-bred system goes the way of Rome. His program is in no way political, racist or religious. He leaves such considerations to those who seek security in belief rather than practical knowledge. The only inalienable right is to die for ones beliefs. Those who choose beliefs over knowledge, as well as those who don't know the difference, will not survive the collapse. In most cases, they will have done the only good thing they have ever done, which is to take their defective genes out of our species. Atlan Formularies supplies the knowledge to survive. Those who reject such knowledge are welcome to share the fate of the rest of the doomed herd.
