Their web site is a wonderful resource and includes current report cards for each school, a calendar of events and a monthly newsletter that can be sent to you via e-mail. Rio Rancho Public Schools was once a part of APS. Population growth on the West Side and in Rio Rancho made it practical to create a separate district in the mid ‘90’s. Things to consider before you enroll in a private vocational school:
Is the school promising you a job when you graduate?
It is against the law for private vocational schools to use any business name, logo or insignia that is designed to be deceptive and mislead potential students about affiliations the school might have. Did you answer an employment agency ad for a job and found you were really calling a school?
Is a course necessary to get a job?
Check the newspaper to see who is offering the jobs you want. Call the human resources departments of some of the companies and ask if you really need a course. How are you going to pay for the course?
Depending on which type of loan you get, you may have to start repaying the loan as soon as you finish school.
It can take many years to pay back the loan, depending on the cost of the course and how high the interest rate is.
Unlike many other types of loans or debts, school loans are very difficult to discharge in bankruptcy.

EDUCATIONAL STRUCTURE
IN NEW MEXICO
Events Calendar Organizational Structure Home Back New Mexico is somewhat unique in its educational structure and governance. The Constitution does not fully outline the framework of organization and administration of the public school system, thus, leaving much to the Legislature to define. The schools are regulated by the Secretary of Education, the Public Education Department and the State Legislature. The educational structure might appear schematically as follows: PEOPLE OF NEW MEXICO LEGISLATURE SECRETARY OF EDUCATION
PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT PUBLIC EDUCATION COMMISSION (10 elected members) ALL LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS SECTION A. - Public Education Commission (PEC)
Article XII, Section 6 of the New Mexico Constitution created the Public Education Department and the Public Education Commission. The Public Education Commission's powers and duties are set forth in statute Section 22-2-2.2 of the Public School Code. The Public Education Commission includes ten members elected from districts for staggered four-year terms. (Public Education Commission districts do not correspond to NMSBA regions.)
22-2-2.2. Commission; duties.

[3/16/51, 7/1/94; Recompiled 10/31/01] SCOPE: Provisions of Part 2 of Chapter 55 [now 5.55.2 NMAC] apply to all post-secondary institutions operating within and receiving financial support from the state of New Mexico. [11/1/96; Recompiled 10/31/01] STATUTORY AUTHORITY: Chapter 25, New Mexico Laws of 1990 amended five statutes under which most public post-secondary institutions operate. The amendments deleted language which prohibited students currently counted in the membership of public schools from also being counted in post-secondary enrollments used for calculating state support. The effect of these amendments was to allow counting and funding students at both educational levels, beginning in the 1990-91 fiscal year. The amendments also specified that the public school district shall transfer to the post-secondary institution the tuition and fees for any student who, during the term, is counted in the membership of the public school district and will receive high school credit for coursework taken at the post-secondary institution.
