San Francisco Volcanic Field The obsidian sources within this field are, perhaps, the best studied in the Southwest (Jack 1971; Robinson 1913; Sanders et al. 1982; Schreiber and Breed 1971; Shackley 1988). Although the chemical variability within sources in this field is generally less than in the mid-Tertiary sources to the south, the magmatic relationships between some of these sources as previously reported are probably in error (Jack 1971; Sanders et al. 1982). At least from the time of Jesus, and for possibly 1,500 years before, the Anasazi occupied a huge chunk of mostly arid and barren real estate in the Four Corners Area of the American Southwest where four modern states - Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah - join at one point. Many 19th century archaeologists believed that the Anasazi disappeared after they abandoned major cities like Mesa Verde and Chaco near the end of the 13th century. Now, we know that they didn't just vanish into thin air, but migrated to the Río Grande Valley, Hopi, Zuni, Acoma and other pueblos in Arizona and New Mexico. (See the SW Cultures Map ). In fact, modern scientists have extended the historical timeline of the Anasazi to at least 1700 and, often, right up to the present to encompass the modern Puebloan descendants of the Anasazi.
Scattered throughout the immense area once occupied by the Anasazi are hundreds of thousands of sites, ranging from caves and individual campsites in the open to multi-story adobe pueblos and magnificent cliff-side stone cities. Most of the major sites are within the boundaries of national or state parks and monuments. On the following pages we deal mostly with such major sites since they are generally more accessible and better maintained.

Our Mission NMSU Research Portal About Us ... Cluster Home Education Disparities. Of primary concern is adequate housing space for the accelerating enrollment in the College of Education and the rapid growth of successful programs that meet the needs described above. A new Center for Educational Outreach would coordinate a variety of successful programs that are assisting teachers, administrators, schools and communities to address existing educational disparities. In 2004, the College of Education received a $1 million donation for a Stan Fulton Chair for the Improvement of Border Schools. This academic chair and an associated office within the new center would coordinate multiple efforts to meet pressing educational needs. The College of Education is currently in the process of renovating and adding on to its primary academic building, providing a window of opportunity to add a hall or wing focused on improving educational outreach. The Alliance for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning is an outreach effort that has developed over the last two years to address the K-12 drop-out problem. This alliance currently involves 25 partnering school districts, three Regional Education Centers, a partnership with the Public Education Department, partnerships among NMSU colleges to raise the achievement level of students left behind, as well as exemplary programs in educational administration, early childhood, literacy, physical education and obesity prevention, bilingual counseling and STEM education

North Texas remembers severe weather anniversaries FEMA joined the city of Fort Worth, the American Red Cross, the National Weather Service and other organizations at the Cash America Building in Fort Worth, Texas on the March 28, 2005 to remind North Texans that severe weather season has arrived. Agencies remembered the tornados that ripped through downtown Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, and Arlington five years earlier. FEMA and the SBA responded with more than $8 million in disaster aid. The disaster preparedness partners also recalled the hail and flash flooding that struck North Texas in May 1995 causing more than $1 billion dollars in property damage and 14 deaths. The workshop was designed to expand relationships with DHS and other federal and state agencies, promote an understanding of the various roles and responsibilities in relation to each other, and exchange critical information necessary for the agencies to better support each other in the fulfillment of their respective missions. In a continuing effort to prepare for an all-hazards response to disasters, the workshop concluded with a tabletop terrorist exercise facilitated by the FEMA Region 6 National Preparedness Division.

58. THE NEW MEXICO IMPORTANT BIRD AREA PROGRAM
There are four Biological Conservation regions (BCRs) in new mexico Sierra MadreOccidental, Chihuahuan Desert, Southern Rocky Mountains, and Shortgrass
http://nm.audubon.org/iba/iba.html
click on map to see individual sites THE NEW MEXICO IMPORTANT BIRD AREA (IBA) PROGRAM Important Bird Areas are sites which provide essential breeding, migrating or wintering habitat for one or more species of bird. They are generally discrete sites that support one or more high-priority species, large concentrations of birds, exceptional habitat, and/or have substantial research value. Such sites may be protected or unprotected, public or private, and any size amenable to conservation efforts.
The primary goals of the IBA program are to: (1) identify and designate key sites for the birds; (2) establish priorities jointly with land managers; (3) activate public participation in bird conservation efforts; and (4) provide public education and outreach. The aim of the IBA program is to provide landowners, planners, developers, regulators, conservationists, and other interested parties with information on where the birds are, in order to support sound land use decisions. The results of the IBA program can be used in determining local, county, and state conservation priorities. IBA information allows different areas to be compared by using several criteria: the area’s importance to birds; the nature and urgency of threats; and the feasibility of implementing conservation actions. The IBA program has no regulatory authority. Identification of a site as an IBA imposes no legal restrictions or management requirements on any property, but can affect land-use planning at the local level. They should not be viewed as the only sites important to birds, or as the only sites needing protection. They are voluntary means of attaining local conservation by building and mobilizing networks of landowners, birders and environmentalists. The best conservation planning involves all stakeholders.
