While it’s essential to focus on basic anatomy and the physical aspects of human sexuality, that’s only half of the issue. It’s been said that sexual sophistication without sexual responsibility leads to disaster, a fact substantiated by the number of unwanted—often terminated—pregnancies in our nation each year. As parents strive to integrate and teach these factors in the home, it helps to encourage questions, communication, and reflection while exemplifying their own value system. New Mexico Take Action New Mexico Health Secretary Michelle Grisham recently announced that the state will restrict Title V-funded abstinence instruction to 6th grade and lower. New Mexico is the only state that will not target these federal funds to younger teenagers. Several New Mexico legislators have said it is very important that they hear directly from New Mexico constituents about their objections to this policy change. It is important to contact Governor Bill Richardson and Secretary of Health Michelle Grisham as well.

Welcome to the Drug Awareness Program's online resource center. Since its inception in 1983, the Elks Drug Awareness Program has worked to prevent drug use by our youth through education. The Elks recognize that they are not experts in the field of drug education. However, we do have the resources in dollars, facilities and volunteers to work with the experts to ensure that young people know the facts about drugs. In addition to sponsoring seminars, workshops and drug-free functions, we print and distribute literature developed by authorities on drug awareness. Since 1983, we've printed and handed out more than 125 million pieces of literature to students, their teachers and their parents. We hope that through this resource center, we can reach even more people. You have our permission to print and distribute this material.

Source : ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics Washington DC. Local Advocacy for Second Language Education: A Case Study in New Mexico. ERIC Digest. "You must have a shared vision. As long as there are self-contained classrooms, teachers are in a box, and there's no solution there." Philip Schlechty, national leader in restructuring, quoted in the New York Times, August 28, 1990, section A, p12. New Mexico second language teachers have been committed to sound, progressive education for a very long time. During the past eight years, however, this commitment has been expressed in an increasingly expanded and unified manner through the avenue of local advocacy. While classrooms are vital to students, schools, teachers, and society, the classroom walls should not limit educators' involvement in policies and practices that affect education. The educational community extends beyond the school building; it includes the community-at-large. Efforts in local advocacy have brought the educational community together under the shared vision of improvement in educational policies and practices. In addition to the PRODUCTS of local advocacythose accomplishments attained at the local and state levelsthe PROCESS itself has produced many benefits. Language educators have formed alliances with members of the business sector, governmental agencies, school boards, professional and civic organizations, and the media. This forum has allowed language teachers to grow professionally and to give support to and receive support from the community.

98. Educate New Mexico - School Choice Resource Center
By empowering parents to select the school best for their children, Educate new It is time to support and expand educational opportunity in new mexico.
http://educatenm.org/RC/sc/scNews.html
Time to Expand Access to Schools
by the Most Rev. Michael J. Sheehan, the Most Rev. Ricardo Ramirez and the Most Rev. Donald Pelotte, New Mexico Bishops
With the new school year underway, we want to take this opportunity to recognize everyone involved in the education of our state's children. Most definitely, we want to reflect on the shared vision that we all have for education in New Mexico — seeing every child succeed.
Regardless of whether the New Mexico school is public, public charter, public magnet, public alternative, independent sectarian, independent non-sectarian, or home-based, we all share the common goal of providing the best educational service possible to children.
As leaders of Catholic education, we know that Catholic, independent and public schools are crucial to our parish families. In fact, 90 percent of our families have children attending public schools, and therefore, we are advocates for these institutions and want to extend a blessing for their success. Also, we extend a blessing for those in our educational environments and in other independent schools.
In addition, we want to pray for those families seeking an alternative school for their children, who for whatever reasons are not succeeding in their current schools. It should be noted that there is a wide variety of schools available that may match their child's academic needs. New Mexico has 239 non-public, independent schools and 790 different public schools — a blessing for parents to choose from.
