A number of institutions of higher learning are figuring out what businesses need The New Mexico business community has, in recent years, helped shape education in the state as much or more than education has shaped business, and the alliance between the two institutions promises to grow even stronger. "We have a very integral relationship with employers," said Lois Carlson, dean of Business Occupations at the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute (TVI). "Every time we put together a new program, we go to the business community first. To start with, we do a survey to see if the program is needed. If they say no, we don't do it. But if the program is needed, we meet regularly with an advisory committee from the community to shape the program."
