Respiratory Care Board The primary purpose of the Board is to safeguard the life and health and promote the public welfare by qualifying, licensing, and regulating the practice of respiratory care in New Mexico.
Standards and Criteria for Licensing and Regulation
The Board promulgates rules and regulations to set standards of education, minimum proficiency for performance and continuing education requirements for licensure applicants and for licensees. The Board thereby protects the public welfare by ensuring that the RCP is competent in the delivery of patient care and in the performance of complex and potentially hazardous medical procedures in the area of cardiopulmonary technology. Requirements for licensure include successful passing of a national standards exam developed and administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC).

Optometry Board Purpose of the Board of Optometry The primary purpose and obligation of the Board of Examiners in Optometry is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public by providing laws and regulations to govern the practice of optometry and to safeguard against any unprofessional, improper, incompetent, and unlawful practice of the profession, the most significant of which could result in blindness or loss of life.
Standards and Criteria for Licensing and Regulation
Licensing agencies, the Board included, usually require a candidate to provide documentation such as a birth certificate, letters of reference, photo, verifications of licensure in other licensing jurisdictions, resume or curriculum vitae, completed application form, applicable fees, affidavits regarding disciplinary history, and so forth. Candidates for licensure to practice optometry in New Mexico must also meet the following educational criteria:

Consistent with our non-partisan approach, Think New Mexico's 10-member Board is composed of Democrats, Independents and Republicans. They are statesmen and stateswomen, who have no agenda other than to see New Mexico succeed. They are also the brain trust of this think tank. Edward Archuleta , a 13th generation New Mexican, is the former Director of the Santa Fe office of 1000 Friends of New Mexico, a nonprofit organization that advocates responsible land-use planning, growth management, and sustainable development. Edward previously served as the top assistant to former New Mexico Secretary of State Stephanie Gonzales. Paul Bardacke David Buchholtz has served on a long list of New Mexico boards and commissions and has advised several New Mexico governors on fiscal matters. David recently served as Chairman of the Association of Commerce and Industry. He is Senior Counsel at Brownstein, Hyatt, and Farber. Garrey Carruthers served as Governor of New Mexico from 1987-1990. Garrey is Dean of New Mexico State University's College of Business, and he was formerly President and CEO of Cimarron Health Plan. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the New Mexico Business Roundtable for Educational Excellence. Elizabeth Gutierrez is the Education Policy Advisor to Governor Richardson. She holds a PhD in educational leadership and public policy and serves on the Board of the Santa Fe Community College. Liz was a marketing executive with IBM for nearly two decades.
