President Bush's Budget and New Jersey
February 7, 2005
The President's Budget builds on his first term's progress by focusing resources on the Nation's priorities while exercising prudent spending restraint in order to achieve the President's goal of cutting the deficit in half by 2009.
  • The 2006 Budget funds efforts to defend the homeland, transform our military for the 21st Century, support our troops as they fight the War on Terror, spread freedom throughout the world, promote high standards in our schools, and continue the pro-growth economic policies that have helped to produce millions of new jobs. Meanwhile, overall discretionary spending grows by only 2.1% under the President's Budget - less than the projected rate of inflation - even with significant increases in defense and homeland security. Non-security discretionary spending is reduced by nearly 1% - the first such proposed cut since the Reagan Administration.
Defending our Nation from attack by increasing funding for defense, homeland security, and international assistance and security efforts, including:

Thursday, June 14, 2001 On behalf of my fellow food and nutrition professionals at the American Dietetic Association, I appreciate the opportunity to talk with you today about nutritional aspects of American children's health and safety and especially about childhood obesity. I represent nearly 70,000 ADA members, the great majority of whom are, like me, registered dietitians. For those who may not know, the American Dietetic Association is the nation's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Our mission is to promote optimal nutrition and well being for all people by advocating for our members. ADA members represent the full spectrum of food and nutrition practice, including pediatrics, school foodservice, sports nutrition, public health and geriatrics, among many more. Our members are involved in patient care and client counseling in health-care institutions, restaurants, schools, businesses, government and educational settings.

The Bristol-Myers Squibb Pledge includes a commitment to conscientious citizenship, a helping hand for worthwhile causes and constructive action that supports a clean and healthy environment. RATIONALE Supporting nonprofit organizations in communities where company employees live and work provides an opportunity for the company to adhere to the values expressed in its Pledge. The company recognizes the impact it makes on those communities and understands its obligations to participate in and indeed to enhance the life of that community and, as a health care company, to contribute to its well-being. ... Zero Balancing What is it? The philosophy of holistic health states that the practitioner must only use safe methods of diagnosis and treatment while emphasizing the care of the whole person, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. Almost all forms of natural medicine generally adhere to this basic definition. How is it practiced? Holistic Health Practitioner may combine massage therapy, nutritional counseling, herbology, reflexology, acupressure, yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, polarity, breathwork, or more while working with a client. Some choose to emphasize the bodywork aspect of the profession while others choose to act more as counselors or teachers. What degrees or certificates are available? Programs range from a few months of training to three years. Some provide enough training to become a licensed massage therapist, LMT, (check individual state requirements) with additional training in other areas (TCM, herbology, nutrition, etc.). Other schools provide smaller programs with fewer hours that may not be enough as a stand-alone career, but would provide a good addition to an already existing career as an acupuncturist, chiropractor, etc. Depending on the school and program, some practitioners qualify to become massage therapists or licensed counselors upon completion of a master's degree program in holistic health counseling.
