    American Dietetic Association Names 2001-2002 Board of Directors June 1, 2001 Contact: Tom Ryan or Doris Acosta CHICAGO – Seventeen national leaders with a wide range of experience in nutrition and public health will serve as the 2001-2002 board of directors of the American Dietetic Association. The board, which takes office June 1 and will serve until May 31, 2002, is responsible for strategic planning, policy development and fiscal management for the Chicago-based ADA, the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Borra, RD, Washington, D.C., President. Borra is senior vice president and director of nutrition at the International Food Information Council, Washington, D.C.     Dr. Ensle received the 2004 Carolyn Sebastianelli Award from the NJ Dietetic Association for her contributions as Delegate to the American Dietetic Association and for over fifteen years of active involvement as the Legislative Network Coordinator, state legislative representative and reimbursement chair. In 2004, she also received first place Eastern Region Award for her Mercury and Fish project from NEAFCS) and in 2003 she received the Distinguished Service Award. In 2000 she received the Mid-Career Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi, the national Cooperative Extension fraternity and in 1998, the Faculty Award of Excellence Distinguished Service Award Nutrition Research Award Home Economist of the Year Award from the NJ Home Economics Association and in 1993, was the recipient of the Diet Health and Environment Award Dr. Ensle is an active member of NEAFCS and chaired the External Marketing Committee in 2002 releasing the nationwide Living Well campaign for public television and marketing FCS Extension nationwide. She is a past-president of the NJ Dietetic Association (1999-2000) and past Delegate (2000-2003) to the American Dietetic Association. It’s all part of a local effort called “OPANAC,” which was one of five Philadelphia-area programs recognized during a panel discussion this morning by the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition (ACFN) for blazing a trail in community-based efforts to keep people healthy. The panel was the third in an ACFN series called TRIUMPH – Trends, Resources and Inspiration for Understanding and Maintaining Physical Health. "There are things that cities can do to help their citizens live healthier lives,” Mayor John F. Street said. “We can create an environment where people are encouraged to exercise, drink water and moderate their eating. Philadelphia is becoming a better city, our citizens feel better and are in a healthier environment.     The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is associated with the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, popularly known as WIC. The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education at no cost to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding post-partum women, and to infants and children up to 5 years of age, who are found to be at nutritional risk. The FMNP was established by Congress in 1992, to provide fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC participants, and to expand the awareness, use of and sales at farmers’ markets.
