New Jersey Bird Records Committee
Welcome!
The New Jersey Bird Records Committee collects records of rare birds reported in the state of New Jersey, and maintains a State List of all species seen in the state. In this context, "rare" means a species which has never appeared in the state before, or has appeared only a few times. Typically, such a bird is not in its normal range or habitat and is not present for a long period. In this usage "rare" doesn't mean endangered species with a wide continental range, or threatened breeding birds. Such species are not monitored by this committee, and should be reported to appropriate governmental or conservation organizations. The goals of the Committee are summarized in an article written by Richard Crossley.
What to report:
Please report only species on the New Jersey Review List or species new to the state; see the New Jersey State List for species which have occurred in the state. Please DO NOT report Federal or State "Threatened and Endangered List" species to the Committee unless they are also shown on the Review List. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/ensphome.htm

L.E.A.P What's Happening at the New Jersey State AFL-CIO VOICE OF LABOR GROWS STRONGER IN NEW JERSEY Assistant Mercer County Prosecutors Utilize New ‘Card Check’ Law to Gain a Voice at Work On July 19, 2005, Governor Dick Codey signed into law important legislation allowing employees not covered under the National Labor Relations Act to choose to be represented by a union by signing authorization cards. This legislation was a top legislative priority of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and our affiliates, and through strong lobbying efforts it was passed by wide, bipartisan majorities in both the General Assembly and the Senate. Less than two months after the signing of this historic legislation, CWA 1034 successfully organized all Assistant Prosecutors in the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. After successfully obtaining authorization cards from a majority of the 41 workers in this unit, all parties met with representatives of the Public Employment Relations Commission. During this ten minute meeting an agreement was signed and CWA 1034 was officially recognized as the employee representative for these workers. The success of this campaign illustrates the need for such legislation. It is too common during organizing election campaigns that workers are disciplined, harassed or even fired simply for exercising their right to have a voice on the job. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO will continue to support the Employee Free Choice Act which will make mandatory card check available to all workers.
