You’ve come to the right place! New Jersey, there’s so much to it: beautiful beaches, protected pinelands, farms and gardens, cranberry bogs, Victorian homes, and home to Fortune 500 companies. It may be the fourth smallest state, but it has tremendous geologic and cultural diversity: from plains in the south to mountains in the north, and from Native Americans to descendents of people from all over the world. At the Camden County Library our collection reflects this diversity. All of our branches have trained staff as well as online and print resources to answer your questions about our home state. In addition, the Voorhees Regional Branch has made a commitment to be THE source of information about all “things” New Jersey. It’s no wonder that we’ve been named the New Jersey State Reference Center, meaning that libraries throughout the state call us to answer their most perplexing questions. The following is a review of the most commonly used books, documents, periodicals, and web sites to answer questions that wrinkle your brow deeper than a Jersey farm furrow.

Revelations: New Jersey Office Regulations Adopted
Ervin Moss, M.D.
, Executive Medical Director
New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists
The New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists has waged an almost 15-year battle to get state regulators to recognize that patients receiving anesthesia in office-based settings deserve the same protections they receive in hospitals or surgical centers. Despite charges that such a regulation will drive up health care costs, lower some physicians' "bottom line" and force the closing of some physicians offices, New Jersey is the first state in the country to adopt office-based anesthesia regulations. These regulations became effective on June 15, 1998.
Not since Eve (or was it Adam, or the snake?) had the revelation that their anatomical difference had significant implications has there been a revelation concerning the difference between office-based anesthesia safety and safety of the traditional anesthesia administered in hospitals and ambulatory care centers. New Jersey Register on May 19, 1997. Deputy Attorney General Sharon Joyce was then required to answer every comment made during the comment period. The few minor changes had to be incorporated into the body of the text, and the final version was scrutinized carefully by the Office of Administrative Law. The final rule adoption was effective as of June 15, 1998.
