ASPEN is a volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in New Jersey. Our fifteen chapters provide families and individuals whose lives are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders (Asperger Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-NOS, High Functioning Autism), and Nonverbal Learning Disabilities:
  • Education about the issues surrounding the disorders. Support in knowing that they are not alone, and in helping individuals with ASD's and NLD achieve their maximum potential. Advocacy in areas of appropriate educational programs, medical research funding, adult issues and increased public awareness and understanding.
Chapters meet monthly, alternating parent support meetings with speaker presentations. ASPEN offers professionals the opportunity to join us at meetings where speakers are scheduled and provides Professional Development Hours to those who attend. The New Jersey Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NJRID) is a non-profit membership-driven professional association. The 200-plus members span the entire state and include professional American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreters, transliterators, Deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers, students currently enrolled in interpreter training programs and others who have a personal interest in the field. NJRID is one of many local affiliate chapters of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID). The principal purpose of NJRID is to initiate, sponsor, promote and execute activities that further the profession of interpretation/transliteration of American Sign Language and English. Coming Events The May 21st 2005 General Meeting and workshop was a huge success! However, the board meeting did not meet its quorum and was unable to officially conduct business. We encourage the membership of over 300 interpreters to attend the November 12th, 2005 General Meeting

    PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME is a birth defect first identified in 1956 by Swiss doctors A. Prader, H. Willi and A Labhart. There are no known reasons for the genetic accident that causes this lifelong condition which affects appetite, growth, metabolism and behavior. Those affected by the syndrome - about one in 12,000 - are very much alike in their physical symptoms, behaviors and other characteristics. Both sexes and all races are affected. The Prader Willi Syndrome Association provides a resource for education and information about Prader-Willi and support for families, professionals and other interested citizens.     Updated Through Amendments Adopted in November 2003 A Constitution agreed upon by the delegates of the people of New Jersey, in Convention, begun at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, on the twelfth day of June, and continued to the tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven.
