Atco - Multiplex - Strange noise can be heard in theater 12 as if someone is moving their hands across the wall and voice can be heard.
Allamuchy - Shades of Death - is the actual name of a road located in, New Jersey. It is said that if you drive down there late at night, and you enter into a patch of fog on the road, it will follow you and you will find footprints on your car...human footprints.
Allamuchy - Ghost Lake - Ghost Lake is located on Shades of Death Road in Allamuchy Township the local legends vary - but the prevailing theme is that there was an Indian Graveyard there and settlers built a man made lake over the graveyard. At night the Indians haunt the area - even we (locals) stay away. Plus there are MANY bear families there so be careful.
Alpine - Devil's Tower - It is said to be, that a long time ago, during the 1900's though, a man was building a "tower" tall enough so that his wife could see the New York Skyline. While it was being built, the wife went up to the top floor, as she came down, she saw her husband with another woman! She ran back up to the top, and jumped out. There is a myth, if you circle the tower, 8 times or something, something is supposed to happen. Nobody has been able to complete it.

Boarding Schools - Military Schools Discipline
There are signs that the military ethos can accomplish things not easily achieved otherwise. Military curricula are even taking hold in some public schools. In Detroit, the Charles Rogers Academy, named for a black army general, offers much the same program as a military prep school. Students of each year have different ranks, discipline is tight, and standards are high. About half the seniors attend collegean extremely impressive rate for an inner-city school. By shifting their focus from training future soldiers to preparing civic leaders, military boarding schools have made a comeback although their ranks have thinned since WWII. Of course, military boarding schools can seem more like another planet to the average teen. At Massanutten, a military boarding school, reveille is at 6 o'clock every weekday morning. Cadets are required to attend formation 45 minutes later dressed in full uniform, complete with polished boots. There, members of Alpha Company that's all the girls are scrutinized for signs of excessive grooming. Sparkle nail polish and heavy makeup are banned. Hair must be tied neatly into military buns or cut above the collar.

Liability 101 One thing working at a boarding school has made me think about a lot is liabilitynot because there is anything out of order with my present employer, or with the school's students, but because the caretaking function boarding schools necessarily undertake inevitably makes one highly aware of how vulnerable they are to things going suddenly, massively, scandalously wrong. When you are the one making sure other people's kids are safe and accounted forthat they are not only well taught, but well nurtured and well watchedyou become aware of how much you cannot see and cannot know and cannot prevent; you become aware of how, even in a scrupulously run institution, there are always a number of lawsuits seemingly waiting to happennot because of any institutional negligence, but simply because of the sheer vertiginous contingency of housing dozens, if not hundreds, of teenagers living away from home. The New Jersey Supreme Court is currently charged with clarifying the precise nature of independent schools' liability in that stateironically because, as nonprofit and therefore charitable institutions, these schools have access to legal loopholes that appear to absolve them from responsibilities they really should have, such as ensuring that students are not sexually abused by teachers or staff. The case is a nasty one, the lawyer is a famous one, and the legal issue is a knotty one. Here's a

Support Given for Suits Claiming Child Abuse by Charities
By LAURA MANSNERUS - The New York Times
November 9, 2004

TRENTON, Nov. 8 - John W. Hardwicke Jr. describes his two years at the American Boychoir School as a hellish series of encounters with pedophiles on the school's staff, led by the choirmaster who was in charge of the boys 24 hours a day. For more than 30 years, Mr. Hardwicke says, the consequences have been devastating. In most states, Mr. Hardwicke would be free to sue the school for negligence in its hiring and oversight of the choirmaster. But New Jersey continues to provide a legal shield to negligence lawsuits against charitable institutions like the Boychoir School, the state's Roman Catholic archdiocese, the Boy Scouts and other groups that work with children. That soon may change. On Monday, a General Assembly committee, after three hours of wrenching stories from more than a dozen victims, approved a measure that would allow many people sexually abused as children to go to court after years of silence. A favorable vote by the full Assembly, which is expected soon, would send the bill to the governor's desk.

Welcome to Jersey!
Books set in the Garden State The Cradle Will Fall by Mary Higgins Clark : A minor road accident lands Katie DeMaio, a young county prosecutor in a small New Jersey town, in Westlake Hospital. That night, from her window, she thinks she saw a man load a woman's body into the trunk of a car...or was it just a sleeping pill-induced nightmare? Tension mounts and evidence grows, as Katie begins investigating a possible suicide and uncovers a hidden medical conspiracy. Home of the Braves by David Klass : As Joe Brickman heads into the fall of his senior year, he's looking forward to being captain of the soccer season and finally asking out his neighbor, Kristine. But scary, unpredictable things start happening at Lawndale High. As violence and danger escalate and school officials clamp down with zero tolerance, Joe finds himself searching for the courage to break free from the forces that threaten to take him down. In his powerful and timely new novel, David Klass dramatizes the many ways in which past violence returns to haunt the present. Dunk by David Lubar : To the Bozo everyone is a "mark." The Bozo comes up with the perfect wisecrack—something funny enough to make people stop and listen, and cruel enough to hook the mark. Now the mark is bent on revenge, and he'll buy however many balls he needs to hit the target and see the Bozo plunge into the water. It's a game that fascinates Chad. He wishes he could shout at the world from the safety of a cage, and he's determined to get a job playing the Bozo. Suddenly, Chad finds himself thrown into a strange and twisted world, where humor has far more power than he ever imagined.

Performance Description: Susannah uses excerpts from letters, diaries, lectures and speeches to capture the complex language and emotions of two courageous nineteenth century women. Rebecca Pennock Lukens (1794-1854) reminisces on her often difficult life as a woman executive in the 19th century iron industry. As the first woman Dean of Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, Ann Preston, M.D. (1813-1872) recalls her struggles for medical opportunities and Woman’s Rights in the 19th century. For anyone interested in Quakers, industry, medicine, woman’s rights, education or history, either program is well suited to organizational meetings, assemblies, and educational programming.

State Focus - New Jersey Passes Dormitory Sprinkler Law View a copy of the Bill SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - On July, 6 2000 Governor Christine Todd Whitman signed into law a measure requiring every public and private school in New Jersey to install fire sprinklers in all dorm rooms within four years. Three Seton Hall University freshmen died and six others were critically injured in a Jan. 19 dormitory fire. The new law, which sped through the Legislature in less than six months, provides $90 million in low-interest and no-interest state loans to help the schools pay for the sprinklers. The Assembly and Senate each passed the bill unanimously, as lawmakers showed their desire to quickly address the issue in the wake of the deadly fire in Boland Hall, a freshman dormitory that was not equipped with sprinklers. "The NVFC applauds the initiative New Jersey has taken in protecting students from fire," said NVFC Chairman Fred G. Allinson. "We encourage other states to follow New Jersey's lead and prevent tragedies like this from ever occurring again." State officials said the new law covers about 75,000 dormitory beds in colleges, universities, military schools, and high schools, and applies to private as well as public schools. It also covers fraternity and sorority houses, which are typically owned by private organizations rather than the schools.
