at Colby-Sawyer College if they wish to pursue New Hampshire Teacher Certification. Students should obtain the necessary form from the office of academic affairs, fill it out with the assistance and consent of their advisors, and return the completed form to the chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Education. Students must have received formal acceptance into the Teacher Preparation Program prior to enrolling for the Student Teaching Internship (CHI 490 or EDU 490). Traditional paths
  • Alternative 1: Preparation through a New Hampshire program
    Candidates who have completed an approved teacher education program at one of the public or private institutions of higher education in New Hampshire, including a practical/experience-based student teacher practicum.
    Alternative 2
    : Out-of-State candidates
    New Hampshire accepts candidates from all states and the jurisdictions if the candidates graduated from an approved state program have been employed as a certified teacher for at least three years out of the last seven, or completed an alternative certification program.
Non-Traditional paths
  • Alternative 3: Demonstrated Competencies and Equivalent Experiences
    There are three options to Alternative 3: Alternative 3A - Educators
    Requires a demonstration of teacher competencies through submission of a portfolio and interview with a board of examiners. Must have at least 3 months of full-time continuous experience as an educator in the area of endorsement.

The New Hampshire State Board of Education recognizes that persons may become qualified as educators through a variety of educational and life experiences. Therefore, the following five alternatives for becoming a certified educator in New Hampshire are available to you. ALTERNATIVE 1 is a process whereby the New Hampshire State Board of Education approves programs of professional preparation in education and the chairperson of the Education Department of each institution recommends certification to the Bureau of Credentialing. If you are about to complete an approved program in New Hampshire, please contact the certifying officer of the Education Department of the institution you are attending for the certification application. The following information must be submitted by persons applying for certification under Alternative 1: Application for certification and NON-REFUNDABLE application fee of $80.00. North Carolina Licensure: Questions and Answers Who needs a license in North Carolina? All professional employees of public schools must hold a license for the subject or grade level they teach or for the professional assignment they hold. In what areas are licenses issued? Licenses are issued in administrative, supervisory, student service, and teaching areas. Teaching areas encompass birth through kindergarten, elementary (K-6), middle grades (6-9), secondary grades (9-12), special subjects (K-12), exceptional children (K-12), and vocational education. (See the complete list of individual areas below.) How do I qualify for a North Carolina license? The standard basis for license is the completion of an approved education program at an accredited college or university.
