Fish New Hampshire and Relax... We have what you're looking for. CLONING By Dianne Emerson, Region 1 Fisheries Biologist; Bryan Comeau, Region 1 seasonal staff; and Cory Vander-Heyden, Region 1 seasonal staff Have you ever had so much to do that you wished you could clone yourself? Biologists here in our small state of New Hampshire have many times. It seems like there are never enough hours in the day to get all the projects/research accomplished that we had hoped! Then there is the public aspect. We strive to be helpful to the public and answer the questions they have. Some of the answers require field assessments, and those take time in some cases, more than two years. This is where seasonal help comes in: Seasonal helpers are our clones. Seasonal helpers are usually college students that get hired in May and work through the summer. They do a variety of tasks that free up the biologists so they can accomplish their responsibilities in a timely manner. Seasonal helpers are invaluable to Fish and Game and without them some projects just wouldn't be completed. I asked a few of my seasonals to add a few words to reflect on what the position means to them.

Municipalities, Cities, Regions: Governing Growth
Reported by Laura Knoy on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. As New Hampshire grows many communities find they're outgrowing their ways of governing. Many town meetings are being replaced by SB2, other towns are reexamining whether they need to expand their governments, while some say that our mostly municipal forms of government need to be changed to a more regional approach. Others say that these changes lose local control and that personal "hands on" approach that Granite Staters have relished for years. In our third installment we'll look at the way we govern and how growth might affect it. Laura's guests are John Andrews, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Municipal Association . Peter Francese, Demographic Trends Analyst for Ogilvy and Mather in New York City and Founder of American Demographics Magazine. Patrick Meighan, reporter and former regional Editor for the

Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL)
Low temperatures and harsh weather prevail over nearly 50 percent of the world's land mass during the winter, where snow, ice, frozen ground, and extended darkness make life difficult for both the military and civilians. Moreover, the cold regions of the world, where 25 percent of the land mass is underlain by permafrost or covered by glaciers and much of the polar seas are covered by ice, provide additional challenges. CRREL's research and engineering programs are focused on meeting the requirements of military force readiness and projection, making the military infrastructure more affordable, and mitigating the effects of winter on the Corps of Engineers' civil works water resources projects. The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory offers a unique set of scientific research capabilities and resources. Our diverse scientific research facilities are available for use by Department of Defense and other federal agencies, state and local governments, private industry, and academia. CRREL offers specialized physical facilities, equipment, instrumentation, scientific expertise, and operations personnel, with many facilities specifically designed for the detailed scientific study of ice, snow, and frozen ground.

The atlas also includes a section of New Hampshire facts, a section of statistical information of the counties and towns, and a few color photographs of various locations around the state. What's New
    ... The Regions
    The Regions
    Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee - A Land of Learning
This region is widely known for the plethora of colleges and academies that dot, and in some cases dominate, the landscape. Dartmouth College (which the region is named after) is in Hanover and Proctor Academy is in Andover, while Colby-Sawer College is in New London.
    Great North Woods- Rugged Beauty
Nowhere do New Hampshire’s forests dominate the landscape as they do in the Great North Woods. The region is unique in other ways, too. Close proximity to Canada’s Province of Quebec, as well as the Maine and Vermont borders, has resulted in a mix of cultures and outlooks.
Lakes - Excitement and Relaxation Meet
The Lakes Region is a haven for vacationers and lovers of the water. Of course, there are 273 lakes to choose from, ensuring plenty of room for everyone to have a great time. Swimming, boating, fishing and even water parks are all available for your enjoyment. There are also a plethora of shops and attractions, so you don't have to spend your entire vacation in the water! Merrimack Valley - As Diverse as its People The Merrimack Valley Region is the major center for government and business in the state. Its three largest cities are Concord, the capital; Manchester, the state’s financial center and home of the state’s largest airport; and Nashua, which was cited in 1997 and 1987 as the best place to live in the U.S. by Money magazine.
