The interns participate in joint projects undertaken by NRC and local high-tech companies. In New Brunswick, NRC is now recognized as an active catalyst for cluster growth. The NRC Institute for Information Technology (NRC-IIT) has grown from one site in Ottawa to four other centres in Atlantic Canada.

    Agreement
... Provincial web site An agreement for the implementation of the Infrastructure Canada-New Brunswick Program was signed between the federal and provincial governments on October 4 th , 2000. The agreement was announced in a joint news release issued in Fredericton, where the formal signing took place. In addition to the information about the Infrastructure Canada Program (ICP) common to all provinces and territories provided on the About the ICP section, there are some aspects of the Infrastructure Canada-New Brunswick Program that are unique:
Program Details Funding The ICP allocation to New Brunswick is $54.445 million. With contributions from our provincial and municipal partners, the total infrastructure investment in New Brunswick will be $163.335 million. ICP funds were allocated according to a formula that gives equal weight to population and unemployment, a formula the Government of Canada believes takes into account the economic status and investment needs of all regions. On average, the federal government contributes one-third of the cost of municipal infrastructure projects. The provincial and municipal governments contribute the remaining funds, and in some instances, there may be private sector investment as well.

    New Brunswick
    The Land
New Brunswick borders on Nova Scotia, Quebec and the U.S. state of Maine. It is rectangular in shape, extending 322 kilometres north to south and 242 kilometres east to west. New Brunswick has a land mass of 73 500 km2, 85 percent of which is forest. The northern part of the province is quite mountainous, the tallest peak being Mount Carleton at 820 metres high. The interior consists mainly of a rolling plateau, flatter in the east and more hilly in the southeast. The main rivers are the Miramichi, Nepisguit, Restigouche and Saint John. Known as "oa-lus-tuk" or "beautiful river" to the Aboriginal people, the Saint John waters the fertile lands of the western part of the province over a distance of 725 kilometres. Downstream, in the Madawaska area, it traces a natural boundary between Canada and the state of Maine. Twice a day, with the rising tide of the Atlantic Ocean, 100 billion tonnes of water stream past a rocky headland in the Bay of Fundy. The current created is practically equal to the flow of all the world's rivers over a 24-hour period. The eastern end of the Bay has tides of nearly 15 metres, the highest in the world, sufficient to completely submerge a four-storey building.
    The History
The existence of New Brunswick was known to the Europeans as early as the 1400s, when intrepid Basque fishermen plied their trade off Miscou in the northeast region of the province. At that time, the region was inhabited by the Malecite and Micmac peoples. The Micmacs were the first to receive Samuel de Champlain and the French when they landed in New Brunswick in 1604. The Aboriginal people established good relations with the French from the outset, helping the French settlers, known as Acadians, to adapt to their new country and taking part in the French attacks on New England.

New Brunswick has been bringing government services online through an aggressive technology strategy known as e-NB. Platforms like the Service New Brunswick portal have been incorporating and delivering those services to citizens of the province. A work in progress, e-NB is increasingly held up as a benchmark of high-tech government, and is a prime example of how modern technology can simplify everyday life. After earning a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick in 1981, Lori MacMullen embarked upon a public sector career with the New Brunswick government. Fourteen years later, in recognition of her accomplishments within the Transportation and Supply and Services branches, she was appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the province.

    CONFRONTATION...
The New Brunswick government took the first step yesterday in a controversial
crackdown on native logging of Crown land. Officers from the Department of
Natural Resources seized five trucks loaded with logs taken from Crown land as part of an enforcement effort that some native leaders say will lead to confrontations in the woods. Since the New Brunswick Court of Appeal ruled last month that native loggers did not have an inherent right to cut lumber on Crown land, the government has said it would begin enforcement efforts only if the natives refused to negotiate and continued to cut timber. Yesterday's move, which departmental spokesman Doug Tyler said took place without confrontations, occurred after the number of native logging sites grew

The the heraldic symbol are combined on a common shield, representing the five communities that now constitute the town of Rothesay. The unity is underlined by the motto: 'QUINQUE IUNCTA IN UNO', translated as 'Five united in one'. Rothesay has adopted a flag that is unique in Canada. By permission of the New Brunswick government the provincial flag, adopted in 1965 on the authority of Queen Victoria's warrant of 1868, occupies the topmost part of the hoist of the municipal flag. The Coat of Arms of the Town occupies the fly.
Jarig Bakker - 23 October quoting the Rothesay web site I took photos of the town flag in three different locations and it was always 1:2, unlike the images on FOTW and the town website. The arms (and presumably the flag) were granted January 14, 1999, by the Canadian Heraldic Authority.
