Moncton http://kvaleberg.com/extensions/mapsources/index.php?params=46_6_N_64_46_W_ AST population 61,046, metropolitan population 117,727) is one of the eight cities in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . The metropolitan area includes the city of Dieppe and the town of Riverview . Moncton was named after Robert Monckton , a British military officer who oversaw the deportation of the Acadians from the local area.
Geography
Moncton is located in southeastern New Brunswick Canada ; in the Petitcodiac River valley, along the north bank of a section of the river where it bends from a west-east flow to a north-south direction. As such, the early settlers in the region nicknamed this area "The Bend" (in French le Coude ). Moncton is located at the geographic center of the Maritime Provinces . Moncton is nicknamed the "Hub City", partly for this reason and also because it historically was the railway "hub" for the Maritime Provinces.

Added stories, facts and links on CG's new travel column The roaring wind off the bay evokes a history of suffering and endurance. In a solemn pilgrimage, Acadians from around the world retrace their ancestors' steps in reverse, converging on Canada's East coast. Here Acadian Culture is kept alive through song and literature, art and cuisine.
More than three centuries ago, Acadians in Atlantic Canada were caught between feuding French and British colonies. In a series of expulsions, their descendants were deported from Acadia to France, England and colonies on the east coast of the United States. Many families were torn apart and remained separated for generations. This summer, Nova Scotia will see the largest cultural event in its history: the World Acadian Congress 2004. Two hundred fifty thousand of the world's ten million Acadian descendants are expected to participate. Hundreds of family reunions are scheduled during the celebration, which takes place during Mi-Careme (mid-Lent) and culminates in High Mass on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15th, the official Acadian National Holiday. TRANSPORTATION AND
REGIONAL ECONOMIES For Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island, marine is the most important transport mode,
compared with trucking for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In central Canada,
commercial transportation accounts for a relatively low share of
provincial GDP, while the opposite is true in western provinces.
Transportation is an important link in the Canadian economy, necessary for moving people and goods within provinces, between provinces, and between provinces and other countries. This chapter demonstrates the importance of transportation to provincial economies through the use of two indicators: the value-added Note 1 of commercial transportation firms Note 2 located within provincial boundaries; and the domestic demand Note 3 for transport-related goods and services purchased by provincial residents. Within this chapter, use of these two indicators is based on data taken from Canada's system of national accounts for 1999, the latest year for which provincial data are available. This chapter also provides a socio-economic profile of the provinces, which describes some key aspects of the population, geography and economy that influence the relative importance of transportation to overall provincial economies.

The Atlas of Canada. The French established the first European settlement in 1604, calling it Acadia. Victimized by the armed conflicts between the British and French, and left to fend for themselves, most of the Acadians were deported in 1755 to the American colonies and they settled over a wide area, particularly in Quebec and Louisiana. Some returned to Acadia, only to find that their land had been given to settlers from New England. Henceforth, this area was called Nova Scotia. After the American Revolutionary War, nearly 14,000 Loyalists settled in the valleys of the St. John and St. Croix Rivers. In 1784, New Brunswick became a separate colony from Nova Scotia. Researchers interested in ancestors who lived in New Brunswick use the main types of genealogical sources. There are a number of resources on Acadian and Loyalist ancestors, especially birth, marriage and death records and land registers. The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick is the main repository of official records on the history of this province. In cooperation with the

Upon her return, she toured schools and community groups to talk about Antarctica and climate change. "I had fantastic feedback from most of the adult organizations I spoke with, but I was incredibly frustrated by the lack of response from my peers." Photo: Students on Ice As a result, she came up with the idea of arranging a national conference to educate and motivate youth on climate-change issues. She finished high school last spring and has spent the past year organizing the Canadian Youth Climate Change Conference, to be held July 3-6 at Royal Roads University in Victoria. The event is targeting people between the ages of 15 and 20, some of whom will be offered financial aid to get to the conference through a $4,000 grant from The Royal Canadian Geographical Society So far, Garmulewicz has lined up an impressive roster of speakers, including Elizabeth May, executive director of the Sierra Club of Canada, environmentalist and television host Severn Cullis-Suzuki and former federal environment minister David Anderson, whom Garmulewicz and a few fellow students had phoned from Antarctica to talk about Canada's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol (see "
