Abbr. NB or N.B. ) A province of eastern Canada on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Part of French Acadia and then the province of Nova Scotia, it became a separate province in 1784 after an influx of Loyalists from the newly independent United States. New Brunswick joined Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario to form the confederated Dominion of Canada in 1867. Fredericton is the capital and St. John the largest city. Population: 751,000. var tcdacmd="cc=edu;dt"; Encyclopedia New Brunswick, province (1991 pop. 723,900), 28,345 sq mi (73,433 sq km), including 519 sq mi (1,345 sq km) of water surface, E Canada. Geography One of the Maritime Provinces, New Brunswick is bounded on the N by Chaleur Bay and Quebec prov.; on the E by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Northumberland Strait (across which it is connected by bridge with Prince Edward Island), and Nova Scotia; on the S by the Bay of Fundy and Passamaquoddy Bay; and on the W by Maine. Its irregular coastline provides excellent facilities for fishing and shipping enterprises. Rivers cross the rolling countryside; they were the first means of transportation and are still important arteries of travel and commerce. The largest river, the St. John, crosses the province from northwest to southeast; the Miramichi River flows northeasterly and drains the central lowlands. Most of the roads parallel the rivers.

New Brunswick Scientific Joins the Penn Marketplace
Tuesday March 25, 2003 New Brunswick Scientific (NBS), in partnership with Fisher Scientific, has agreed to join the Penn Marketplace effective April 1, 2003. New Brunswick Scientific has agreed to make their products available in the Penn Marketplace through Fisher Scientific. Fisher Scientific will be the authorized source for all New Brunswick Scientific products. This new business relationship between New Brunswick Scientific and Fisher Scientific is a result of a new third party purchasing initiative developed by Purchasing Services. This strategic sourcing initiative enables the University to increase utilization of the Penn Marketplace by introducing new suppliers and products while maximizing its existing electronic trading partner relationships. This sourcing change will have no impact on the pricing structure currently offered to the University by New Brunswick Scientific. Prior to this partnership, all New Brunswick Scientific direct orders were auto-faxed and invoices received in paper format. As a result of this sourcing change, faculty and staff will continue to have the freedom to order the full range of New Brunswick Scientific products, interact directly with the New Brunswick Scientific sales representative, while the University benefits from the electronic processing (orders and invoices processed via
