http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Age
New Age
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
New Age describes a broad movement of late twentieth century and contemporary Western culture characterised by an individual eclectic approach to spiritual exploration. It has some attributes of a new, emerging religion but is currently a loose network of spiritual seekers, teachers, healers and other participants. The name "New Age" also refers to the market segment in which goods and services are sold to people in the movement. Rather than follow the lead of an organised religion, "New Agers" typically construct their own spiritual journey based on material taken as needed from the mystical traditions of all the worlds religions as well as shamanism neopaganism and occultism . Participants are likely to dip into many diverse teachings and practises, some mainstream and some fringe, and formulate their own beliefs and practices based on their experiences in each. No clear membership or rigid boundaries actually exist. The movement is most visible where its ideas are tradedfor example in specialist bookshops, music stores, and fairs. Most New Age activity may be characterized as a form of alternative spirituality. Even apparent exceptions (such as alternative health practices) often turn out to have some spiritual dimension (for example, the integration of mind, body, and spirit). "Alternative" here means, with respect to the dominant Western Judeo-Christian culture. It is no accident that most New Age ideas and practices seem to contain implicit critiques of mainstream Christianity in particular. An emphasis on meditation suggests that ordinary prayer is insufficient; belief in reincarnation (which not all New Agers accept) challenges familiar Christian doctrines of the afterlife.

“I was in prison, and you came unto me. Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:36, 40) And the book of Hebrews directs followers to “ Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” (Hebrews 13:3) No matter what brought you to WriteAPrisoner.com, we ask that you take your time reading through our website and to form your own opinion on what can be done through correspondence to help reduce our prison population. Many inmates have established places to live, have employment waiting upon release, and have found legal aid to overturn a wrongful conviction simply because someone on the outside lent an ear and some words of encouragement. As you may know, since 1989, thanks to DNA testing, death-row and life-sentence convictions were overturned for 157 innocent people. These people endured years in prisons for crimes they did not commit. You are no doubt aware that our justice system is flawed, and the internet has become a medium for which innocent people can find the help they need and deserve. In addition, little to no effort is put forth by most government agencies to reintegrating prisoners back into society; the internet has allowed many inmates to secure employment before release thus reducing the possibility of becoming one of the more than two-thirds who will return to prison within the next three years.

Demographics of Slovakia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The majority of the 5.3 million inhabitants of Slovakia are Slovak Hungarians are the largest ethnic minority (9.7%) and are concentrated in the southern and eastern regions of Slovakia. Other ethnic groups include Roma Czechs Rusyns Ukrainians ... Germans , and Poles While both international organisations (the United Nations, the World Bank etc.) and the official Slovak statistics office offer population figures for ethnic groups, these figures seldom come close to agreement. Figures for the Roma population (for a variety of reasons) vary between 1 and 10% of the population. In the most recent survey carried out by the Slovak Government's Roma Plenipotentiary, the figure for the percentage of Roma was arrived at through interview with municipality representatives and mayors, according to how many Roma they think live in their jurisdictions. The figure arrived at by this means was in the region of 300,000 (about 5.6 %).Note however that in the case of the 5.6%, the above percentages of Hungarians and Slovaks are lower accordingly.
The Slovak constitution guarantees freedom of religion . The majority of Slovak citizens (60.3%) practice Roman Catholicism ; the second-largest group consider themselves atheists (9.7%). About 8.4% are Protestants, and 4.1% are Orthodox. About 2,300

ANNOUNCING A BREAKTHROUGH
Galileo's findings, that the earth circled the Sun, was not the center of the universe and was round, resulted in a new vienv of Earth and a new world in which people lived That was major news.
In a similar fashion, findings reveal that we are now living in a completely different world. Basil Sharp (a rather ordinary person), in pulling together his observations of life experiences along with those of other prominent thinkers, sets forth the case that we are now living in a very different (view of) the universe and planet earth as very different (view of) human individuals and human community and with a very diferent (view of) Supreme Being. As described in his book THE ADVENTURE OF BEING HUMAN, we are living in a world that is radically different from any (view of) world that humans have ever lived in previously. The implications, which are also noted in the book, are as challenging as they are exciting.

"The Jesus of the Cults":
How the Esoteric Christ Became the Christ of Scholars
by Philip Jenkins, Distinguished Professor of History and Religious Studies, Pennsylvania State University. A paper presented at CESNUR 2000 international conference, Riga, Latvia, August 29-31, 2000. Preliminary version. Please do not reproduce without the consent of the author. Since the mid-nineteenth century, new and fringe religious movements have often generated distinctive images of Jesus, who is presented as a sage, philosopher and occult teacher, whose views have much in common with those of Asian teachings. This idea runs for example through works like the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ and the work of Madame Blavatsky, Rudolf Steiner and Elizabeth Clare Prophet. Ironically, these pictures have a very great deal in common with the images which increasingly dominate the mainstream critical scholarship of the New Testament, especially following the rediscovery of the Gnostic Gospels found at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in 1945. In modern scholarly writing, Jesus has become more of a Gnostic, Cynic or even a crypto-Buddhist than the traditional notion of the reformist Jewish rabbi. This paper will illustrate the growing convergence between the once marginalized ideas of the fringe religions and the concept of the mainstream denominations. I will suggest that in both cases, the popularity of these related views of Jesus reflects the ideological needs and predilections of the audiences to whom they are presented.

The One Day At a Time Group is dedicated to serving men and women who have eating disorders and who want to work a program with others.
The ODAT Group is made up of many lists and meetings and we will be adding more as time goes on. Our community is composed of religious and secular lists but our one common theme is the desire to recover from an eating disorder. As you get to know us, you will find that most of our support loops for compulsive eaters have a special focus. We find that by sharing our experience, strength and hope with others like ourselves leads to a quicker and more meaningful recovery and our mission is to provide a safe place to do that.
The only requirement to join our support community is to have a desire to recover from our eating disorder. By participating in our loops and working an honest recovery program, we will reach our goals one day at a time.
Although many of our members are also members of Overeaters Anonymous and The Recovery Group, we are not affiliated with either of these organizations but have great respect for both.
The ODAT Group has a melting pot of sorts ... a place where members of all our loops can gather. It is called
