Sex Offender and Community Notification
Nevada Sex Offender's Registry web site
THE COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION OF SEX OFFENDERS LAW
In a continuing effort to protect women and children from sex offenders, the 1997 Nevada Legislature passed law which requires local law enforcement agencies to notify those members of the community who are reasonably likely to encounter a sex offender, that a sex offender is either residing or working in their neighborhood. This is known as Community Notification of Sex Offenders. The law, NRS Chapter 179D, also expanded the Community Notification law to now include all sex offenders who reside in the state as well as certain juvenile sex offenders. The purpose of this law is to provide further protection to parents, educators and volunteers in the form of information that a sex offender is residing in your community. HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
WHAT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY CAN AND CANNOT DO
Your local law enforcement agency is not expected or required to notify every possible school, organization, business or individual within its jurisdiction for each particular sex offender who is subject to notification. While such extensive notification may be necessary for certain sex offenders or under certain circumstances, as a general rule, a local law enforcement agency may tailor the scope of its notification according to the specific characteristics of each particular sex offender and each particular location where notification is to be provided.

History of the Nevada Library Association
By Billie Mae Polson, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Library (with later revisions)
    BEGINNINGS
In 1946, a small group of six librarians met in Reno, Nevada, to discuss the possibility of forming a state library association. They drafted a letter to other librarians in the state giving the following reasons why the establishment of the Nevada Library Association (NLA) would be of value to the state:
    1. Act as a clearing house for library information in Nevada, through meetings and a published newsletter.
    2. Act as a forum for presenting new ideas which may benefit Nevada libraries.
    3. Act as a group to protect or broaden the scope of Nevada library service, and call attention to the work of Nevada's libraries.
The letter of the Committee to Organize a Nevada Library Association was signed by the six people who were, a few months later, to become the charter members of the Nevada Library Association: Mr. E.C.D. Marriage, librarian, Nevada State Library; Mrs. Lois Bicknell, librarian, Reno High School; Miss Cornelia D. Provines, librarian, Nevada State Historical Society Library; Mr. Edwin Catagna, librarian, Washoe County Library; Mr. James J. Hill, director of libraries, University of Nevada; and Mr. Marco G. Thorne, reference librarian, Washoe County Library.

The Nevada Conservation League, a non-partisan organization, believes that the most effective way to promote conservation and protect Nevada's environment for future generations is to elect, support and hold accountable pro-conservation candidates. Below are the Nevada Conservation League's endorsements for the 2004 elections. All endorsements are final but additional endorsements may be added to this list after the September 7th primary. Endorsements are made based on candidates' responses to a written questionnaire, answers given in an interview with a committee, their conservation record and campaign viability. In 2003, the Nevada Conservation League reviewed the conservation voting records of all the lawmakers in the Nevada State Legislature and assigned each one a conservation score: the higher, the better for protecting Nevada's land, air and water. Conservation scores are listed for incumbent candidates and were considered in the endorsement process. Please note that if a race does not appear below, no endorsement has been made.
