Built by Pieter Post ( The height of Dutch architecture was during the Dutch Golden Age . Due to the thriving economy cities expanded greatly. New town halls, weighhouses and storehouses were built. Merchants that had gained a fortune ordered a new house built along one of the many new canals that were dug out in and around many cities (for defense and transport purposes), a house with an ornamented fa§ade that befitted their new status. In the countryside new country houses were built, though not in large numbers. For more information see: Dutch Golden Age See also

Their music is a mixture of native, African and European elements, and is closely connected with trends from neighboring islands like Martinique Trinidad and Guadeloupe , as well as the mainland former Dutch possession of Suriname , which has exported kaseko music to great success on the islands. Cura§ao and Bonaire likely have the most active and well-known music scenes. Cura§ao is known for a kind of music called tumba , which is named after the conga drums which accompany it.

Tourism is the big business here and it's served in a double scoop of Latin coastal coasters and sun bunnies from North America and Holland. Although large-scale tourism dominates the island (read: luxury resorts from here to sunset), there are still undeveloped areas on the exposed northern coast, and much of the interior is inhabited by nothing more than goats and contorted divi-divi trees.

Part 1 - Descriptive Section Introduction The Netherlands Antilles is a group of five islands in the Caribbean Sea. Two, Curaçao and Bonaire, are situated near the coast of Venezuela, and the other three, St. Maarten, (St. Martin), St. Eustatius and Saba are situated near the United States Virgin Islands. It has a geographical area of 960 km and has approximately 209,000 inhabitants. The capital of the country is Willemstad, located in Curaçao. As a group of islands they are fully autonomous in internal affairs and constitutionally equal with the Netherlands. The Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, and Aruba are equal partners in the Dutch Kingdom. The political structure of the Netherlands Antilles is a parliamentary system and has two governmental levels. Besides a central government, there are five island governments that deal with the local island affairs. The Netherlands Antilles as a constitutional unity is described as "country". Tourism, petroleum transshipment, and offshore finance are the mainstays of this small economy, which is closely tied to the outside world. The islands enjoy a high per capita income and a well-developed infrastructure as compared with other countries in the region. Almost all consumer goods are imported, with Venezuela, the US, Europe and Japan being the main suppliers.
