It provides a better understanding of the spatial phenomenon that occurs around us. Such phenomenon however is complex in nature and requires a vast collection of interdisciplinary data- the integration of geographic data from different sources therefore is fundamental requirement to analyse and understand the problems that keeps relation with geography in one way or another. This implies that the data that are produced by an agency need to be shared with others, which can be viewed as unlocking of data to its potential users. This paper will present the objective of Nepalese NGII with an overview of the activities currently being undertaken. The NGII architecture proposed by the project (and is currently under discussion) will be presented. Based on the recently conducted study, the strengths and weakness of each of the participating agencies- both as geospatial data provider as well as user- will be assessed. The strategic actions that NGIIP should focus to enable each of the agency to be its meaningful participant will be outlined. Finally, the experience gained so far in building NGII in Nepal will be shared.

The book: Everest, Summit of Achievement To mark the anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953, the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) in conjunction with the British Council in Nepal has created an exhibition called Imaging Everest from its collection of approximately 20,000 photographs taken on the nine Mount Everest Expeditions between 1921 and 1953. These expeditions were jointly organized by the Royal Geographical Society and the Alpine Club. The exhibition shows the importance of the landscape and people of the Himalayan region and tells the story of those involved in the first attempts to climb Everest. This is the first time that the Society is aware of a collection of Everest images from the Everest Archive being shown in Nepal. Sir Edmund Hillary will officially open the exhibition Imaging Everest on May 28, 2003 at the British Council headquarters in Kathmandu, Nepal. The exhibition runs from May to July 2003 and will then be on display at the International Mountaineering Museum in Nepal.
