Nepal - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman Have you ever stood inside a tall building and looked out a window? Have you climbed a tree? Maybe you've even flown in an airplane and looked down at the ground. Can you remember the feeling of being in a high place? Now imagine being in a place that is higher than anyplace else on earth. This place is a mountain in Nepal. It is called Mount Everest.
Nepal is a country in Asia. It is bordered by India in the south and China to the north. Its capital is a city called Kathmandu. There is a mountain range called the Himalayas in Nepal's north. This group of mountains has many of the tallest mountains in the world. The tallest of these mountains is Everest.
Mount Everest is many times taller than the tallest building in the world. It is about 8,850 meters, or 29,035 feet tall. Can you imagine climbing something that tall? Until about 60 years ago, no one had ever climbed Everest.

Nepal - Culture
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman The culture of Nepal is truly unique. Nowhere on earth can you find a way of life like in Nepal. This is partly because of Nepal's geography and partly because of its age. Nepal has been an organized society for at least 1,500 years, and people have been living in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley for another 2,000 years. Nepal's location between northeast India and southwest China puts it in the middle of an important Asian trade route. Both of these reasons helped shape modern Nepalese culture.
A critical part of Nepalese life is religion, and most in Nepal practice Hinduism. Another big portion of the Nepalese are Buddhists. Hinduism is said to be the oldest religion on earth, and it's a fairly complex religion. Hinduism dates back to at least 1500 BC, where it found its beginning in the Indus River valley in northern India and nearby Pakistan.
Hinduism is different from many other religions for many reasons. One is because Hindu doesn't recognize one founder of their religion, as Christians do with Christ or Muslims do with Muhammad. Hindus also don't have one sacred book of teachings as other religions do. Hindus believe in the phrase "all rivers lead to one ocean," meaning that God accepts all worshipers, regardless of what religion they belong to. Because of this, Hindus don't try to convert others to Hinduism.

Nepal
The Land
For a small country, Nepal has great physical diversity, ranging from the Tarai Plainthe northern rim of the Gangetic Plain situated at about 300 meters above sea level in the southto the almost 8,800-meter-high Mount Everest, locally known as Sagarmatha (its Nepali name), in the north. From the lowland Tarai belt, landforms rise in successive hill and mountain ranges, including the stupendous rampart of the towering Himalayas, ultimately reaching the Tibetan Plateau beyond the Inner Himalayas. This rise in elevation is punctuated by valleys situated between mountain ranges. Within this maze of mountains, hills, ridges, and low valleys, elevational (altitudinal) changes rersulted in ecological variations. Nepal commonly is divided into three broad physiographic areas: the Mountain Region, the Hill Region, and the Tarai Region. All three parallel each other, from east to west, as continuous ecological belts, occasionally bisected by the country's river systems. These ecological regions were divided by the government into development sectors within the framework of regional development planning. The rhythm of life in Nepal, as in most other parts of monsoonal Asia, is intricately yet intrinsically intertwined with its physical environment. As scholar Barry Bishop learned from his field research in the Karnali region in the northwest, the livelihood patterns of Nepal are inseparable from the environment.

Our intention here is to give the visitor the answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Rafting in Nepal.
    General Informations
Rafting alog Nepal's mountain rivers has become increasingly popular and Nepal has become almost as well known for its whitewater rafting as for its trekking. In fact many of the adventure trips to Nepal combine rafting and trekking expeditions. The rivers of Nepal are recognized as among the very best in the world for rafting and kayaking, with many runs providing the thrill of some of the world's finest rafting rivers while passing through unrivalled scenery covering a wide range of alpine and sub-tropical environments. No special experience is required for a rafting trip. As long as you don't mind doing some paddling and have no objections to wet clothes you're a suitable candidate for a whitewater trip. There are various levels of difficulty or ease-according to the stretch of river and the season, and you cerainly don't have to be an expert, or indeed have had any previous experience of rafting, to be able to enjoy and take copetent part in an organized, lower grade run. What is required is at least moderate physical fitness and some affinity for water. On the more challenging rivers this is not recommended unless you are experienced in rafting or kayaking, but it is possible to hire equipment (mainly in Kathmandu and Pokhara) and some rivers would be ideal for independent rafters. It is important to consult one of the reputable rafting companies in Nepal for conditions of the rivers you are intending to raft before setting off.Himalayan rivers are more active than most.
