Welcome!
A Personal Message From NREA’s General Manager
The Nebraska Rural Electric Association (NREA) is the private non-profit trade association for 35 rural electric systems that provide electric service to consumers in most of the rural areas and many of the small towns in the great State of Nebraska. Together, the more than 950 dedicated employees of our member-systems serve approximately 215,000 meters and over 400,000 consumers across more than 85,000 miles of line.
This accomplishment has not been without its challenges, and as we work through the 21st century and the possibility of the restructuring of the electric utility industry, we will face many new technical, economic and political challenges in the future. Nebraska’s rural electric leaders will meet these challenges and will continue to be guided by their customer’s desire for reliable, high-quality electric service at affordable rates. We are confident that Nebraskans will continue to see the value in maintaining their locally-owned, controlled, and operated rural public power districts and electric cooperatives. We believe most Nebraskans see their rural electric systems as major assets to the economic health of the rural areas they serve.
For 70 years Nebraska’s rural electric systems have made Nebraska a better place to live, work and raise a family. That continues to be our mission for the next century.

Settle in, and we'll cruise the highways of the Cornhusker State. Interstate Highway System The Interstate Highway system in Nebraska began in 1957 with construction of a portion of I-80 near Gretna. I-80, a major east-west route across the U.S., was completed in Nebraska in October of 1974. In addition, Nebraska is also served by I-76 for a few miles, by I-180 going into Lincoln, and the I-480 and I-680 freeways around Omaha. I-129 also enters Nebraska for a couple miles in South Sioux City. U.S. Highway System The U.S. Highway network debuted in Nebraska in 1926, and many of these routes remain today. The east-west routes are numbered US-6, US-20, US-26, US-30, US-34, US-136, US-138 and historical routes US-38 and ALT US-30. The north-south routes are US-73, US-75, US-77, US-81, US-83, US-159, US-183, US-275, US-281, US-283, and historical US-383. State Highway System A two-tiered system of state highways is in use. The primary system uses 1 to 3 digits. Numbers were basically used in sequence, or were referenced off the parent route. In a couple cases, routes were numbered for continuity from other states (N-71, N-92, N-370), or were directed by legislation (N-250).

GREETINGS FROM THE GRAND MASTER IVAN A. VRTISKA
VISIBLE, RELEVANT, POSITIVE PRESENCE within your community and among your Brethren. These are words that are referenced in many conversations and presentations across and among the Quarries of Masonry. This concept is easy to talk about, however more difficult to implement and achieve. Our Lodges must be an important element in the heart of every Brother and a vital part of our communities. Relative to community, a test has been suggested to determine if your Lodge is relevant to your community. That test is simply: "Would the Community miss our Masonic Lodge if we were to close?"...

To Quote an Unknown author: “Together we can accomplish more.” We as a Masonic Family share the same basic core values and lessons. The presentations of each organization are different, perhaps to grant us the opportunity to reinforce these teachings from different perspectives and approaches, and thus to better assist us to learn and implement these valuable and important lessons. If we live these lessons and teachings, perhaps we will enhance and impact the direction of our Society. Our behavior and well doing shall prove to be contagious to those around us and thus bring those observers into our Fraternal Family....
