What's New Deaf Reach 2004 Easy Reading Adult Bible Study Guide National Association of the Deaf Convention Booth Booth Evangelism at Deaf Community Events ADM Office Space
To Be Completed Soon For many months, Adventist Deaf Ministries (ADM) has operated out of a crowded home-office. However, as the volume of work has continued to increase, the need for more working space increased. Unfortunately, finding satisfactory office space in the area proved to be fruitless as it was either too expensive (due to being located in retail store buildings) or else the space was in very poor condition. Several months ago our home church, the Apache Junction Seventh-day Adventist Church (AJSDA), decided on a building expansion for extra Sabbath School classrooms and space for the Pathfinders. Shortly after that decision, AJSDA learned about the needs of the deaf ministry and that we were working in a home-office. But have you ever heard of a hearing church that decided to postpone their own expansion in order to give priority to the needs of the deaf ministry? Well, if you have never heard of a church like that, then you have not visited the Apache Junction Seventh-day Adventist Church (located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Phoenix, Arizona).

Message from Leonard! June 8, 1999:
Murder! O
n June 8, 1999, the bodies of two murdered Lakota men, Wilson Black Elk and Ron Hard Heart, are found beside the two mile track that runs between Whiteclay, Nebraska, and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. They had last been seen about 10:30 on June 6th walking back to the reservation. Law enforcement is unresponsive. Their indifference is consistent with that in previous deaths of Indian people in this area, Since 1973, there have been 64 unsolved (not just unsolved, but UNINVESTIGATED!) murders here. Whiteclay, NB The town of Whiteclay Sheridan County Nebraska, has a population of just 22 people.Yet Whiteclay's four liquor stores annually have sales over $4,000,000 thanks to their proximity to Pine Ridge and proprietors willing to "run a tab" for unemployed people predisposed to alcohol addiction. The unemployment rate on Pine Ridge Reservation is 75-80% (vs. 5% nationally).

Welcome to Gothenburg, Nebraska - U.S.A!
History
Gothenburg, Nebraska, is proud of its Swedish heritage. Gothenburg was founded in 1882 by Olof Bergstrom, a native of Hassela, Sweden, who worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Göteborg, Sweden, are the only two Gothenburgs in the World. Bergstrom selected the site that was to be Gothenburg and located a farmstead about a mile north. The Union Pacific Railroad laid out the original town of eight blocks. The town was laid out parallel with the railroad tracks but not with the world, which accounts for the bend in the city's streets. Mr. Bergstrom returned to Sweden and enticed a number of people to migrate to Gothenburg. He told them it was to be a Swedish town so they would not have to learn English. The first business building was erected by E.G. West in the spring of 1883. The Union Pacific depot was built in October 1884. The first newspaper appeared on Saturday, May 9, 1885. Gothenburg reached a population of 300 and was incorporated as a town on July 8, 1885. The first church was completed in 1886. A boom occurred in the early 1890s when a canal, lake and powerhouse were built to generate electric power. A barbed wire factory, pickling works, galvanized iron works, lead pipe works, sheet copper rolling mill, brass foundry, boiler iron works, and bathtub factory were some of the firms that located in Gothenburg in the 1890s.

Projects completed and on going include a ramp, apron and runway reconstruction. The installation of the Runway Visual Range (RVR) indicator will make Grand Island one of two airports in Nebraska that have this type of precision equipment. By the year 2007 both major runways and the entire ramp surface will be completely replaced. The airport will also be the home of a new Army National Guard Chinook Helicopter Base facility slated to begin construction in the spring of 2006.
