IMANTS BARUSS Alterations of Consciousness: An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists Washington, DC: American Psychological Association, 2003, 290 pages (ISBN 1-55798-993-1, US$39.95 Hardcover) The author's purpose is to review, as a potential undergraduate text for courses on consciousness, the experimental and phenomenological research on alterations of consciousness, ranging from sleep and dreaming to mystical and near-death experience. There is also a clear agenda announced by the book's subtitle, "An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists." In the view of Baruss, all too often in states of consciousness research a preoccupation with theory has kept investigators from full engagement with the actual data. "It is important for scientists...to learn to rely on the data rather than their predilections, and to go wherever the evidence leads them" (p. 234) - an incontestable statement in itself.

Mysticism and Rationalism
Sunday January 11 2004
Summary:
Throughout the 20th Century science and religion were seen as opposite ends of the spectrum but as we’ve entered this new century the lines seem to be blurring and some of our past certainty is eroding. Compass has assembled a group of Australian contemporary thinkers to tell us how they make sense of it all.
Story:
Geraldine Doogue:
Hello there, Geraldine Doogue, welcoming you to Compass… with a particular question this week:
When it comes to beliefs and values, how do you think the 21st century will unfold? Will there still be room for faith and mystery in our lives… or will science and rationalism hold sway?
Since their earliest days, universities like this one have been the meeting-ground for people arguing over the big “meaning-of-life” questions… the scientists, the philosophers, the theologians have all jostled for room in the debate to explain who we are and why we’re here.
Now irrespective of who’s on top at any particular time, the search itself is pretty intriguing… and maybe the divisions aren’t as clear as they seem.

Neo-Tech has a very special jargon, but essentially contains many useful principles which can be extracted, and is based on a foundation of "integrated honesty". Many of Dr. Wallace's "new" gravity physics discoveries, parallel our own, in more than several respects. Ananda stepped into the forum as they were speaking about DMT, and were showing a lack of information to adequately assess, objectively, the arguments for it. They had little notion, at that point that it was a natural brain neurotransmitter, of the Pineal Gland. To Neo-Tech, mysticism is anything that is not integrated honestly, and maintains the world in parasitical eliticism. Since their aim is to dispell all mysticism, Ananda felt impelled to dispell the mysticism generated on DMT and the Pineal gland, by the Rockefeller elite establishment. Whilst these most significant neurochemicals were classified Above Top Secret: MYSTICISM AND DMT: Greetings, this is Ananda, friend of Frode Kvisle (have not participated in word on this forum for some months). Despelling the mysticism that has appeared in places of this chat forum, due to lack of gathered intelligence by which to adequately integrate perspectives. By the age 12 the pineal gland calcifies, hardens, and the production of Pinoline, DMT, 5meoDMT decreases. Power Thinking, Einsteins focussing techniques, and image streaming aid in reawakening this, or maintaining it.

Near-Death-Like Experiences by John L. Griffin, PhD Actor Larry Hagman's perspective on life is the polar opposite from that of his famous character, J.R. Ewing, on the popular, long-running Dallas television series. He sums it up at the end of his recent autobiography, Hello Darlin' Evidence of the After-life Not long after Larry disclosed his Near-Death Experience on television, I learned that he would be at the Local Hero Bookstore in Ojai for a book signing. I stopped by to find a diverse group of people in a friendly and almost festive atmosphere in the large patio behind the store. And there was Larry, jovially signing away. I waited my turn in a rather long line and then was face-to-face with an open and engaging man who seemed a lot more like Major Nelson in I Dream of Jeannie than J.R. Ewing on Dallas . Still, there did seem to be a bit of a Texas persona, but a genuinely friendly, down-to-earth one. I got right to the point and asked if I could arrange an interview about his NDE. After briefly explaining World University's Thanatology Program in terms of care for the dying, bereavement counseling, and conscious living and dying - particularly in light of the implications of the Near-Death Experience - he understood and agreed to meet with me. Taking a ten thousand dollar bill from a stack next to him, he wrote his phone number on it, saying "Give me a call." On the face of the bill was a picture of Larry in a ten gallon Stetson hat underneath a banner proclaiming, "The United State of Texas." Alongside was a declaration in smaller letters: "This note isn't worth the paper it's printed on." On the reverse was the motto, "In Hagman We Trust" over a picture of the Southfork Ranch from
