Patriot League report
SportsLine.com Report
June 11, 2000
A glance at 2001
The Midshipmen figure to be a unanimous preseason pick to rule the 2000-2001 Patriot League season. Forward Chris Williams most likely will be the league's preseason player of the year. Unless the Mids have someone stashed away at the Navy Prep School, center will be a position of concern with Mike Cunningham the only returning veteran. But DeVoe should be able to compensate with a deep group of power forwards. Navy could start an all-senior lineup next year and experience goes a long way in this league.
The Coach
Don DeVoe is expected to return for his ninth season, though he's been at odds with the league office over a number of matters. DeVoe (142-86) said the league has to get an eighth member to strengthen the conference and, to that end, the Patriot League officially added American University as the eighth full member on April 27. The Midshipmen lose assistant coach Mark Alarie, who decided to return to the business world after only a year in the coaching ranks.
Who'll be Back
Small forward Chris Williams (15.2 ppg) and power forward Robert Reeder (7.5 ppg) combined for 12 rebounds a game and will anchor the frontcourt. The backcourt returns, too, with point guard Reggie Skipworth and John Williams, a 6-5 defensive stopper. All four will be seniors.

163. U.S. Navy Plan Black 1922 Naval War In The Caribbean
An Operational and Tactical level game of the hypothetical naval war that both the U.S. and German planners foresaw in the event of a German victory in World War I.

game anyway. But the German and American admirals on the scene did cultivate an intense dislike for one another, and the feelings spread to the top on both sides. Plan Orange covered possible war with Japan. Plan Red addressed war with Great Britain. Plan Black received much less attention than Orange from the American staff, but somewhat more than Red. Plan Black Plan Orange and Plan Red, is the inclusion of ships planned or begun but never completed. The Americans receive a pair of aircraft carriers based on the design study using large armored cruiser hulls. There are also three examples of the massive South Dakota class and two battle cruisers of the Lexington class. Germany receives three further examples of the Baden class; had World War I not intervened these would have been ordered as part of the 1917 program. There are three battle cruisers of the Mackensen class and three of the GK4531 battle cruiser design. There are also three representatives of the GK4251 battleship. And of course Germany receives an aircraft carrier, the proposed conversion of the huge liner Imperator.

Were you born in Pennsylvania?
I was born in this house. This is the old family homestead. Mother and Dad built it. I think it was built about 1905. Nobody has lived here but the Bernatitus family
When did you decide you wanted to be a nurse?
I always wanted to be a nurse. There was nothing else for girls to do in those days but be a school teacher or a nurse. My parents couldn't afford to send me to college. My school friend, whose mother was a widow, told my mother, who was also a widow, to let me go for training. My mother then decided to let me go for training locally. That girl Went to New York for her training.
Where did you go?

178. The Royal Australian Navy In The Vietnam War
Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia, including information about Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, as well as a range of current issues relating to Australian Vietnam Veterans.
http://www.vvaa.org.au/ran.htm
The Royal Australian Navy in the Vietnam War
Reproduced with kind permission of the author, Joe Straczek, Senior Naval Historical and Archives Officer The Royal Australian Navy's role in the Vietnam War is sometimes overlooked by comparison with the Army's larger numerical involvement. As well as serving in ships deployed to Vietnam naval personnel served in clearance diving teams, the Navy helicopter flight, in logistic support roles and in medical teams. Australian destroyers sailed nearly 400,000 miles in the course of the war and fired more than 100,000 rounds of ammunition. The converted aircraft carrier HMAS SYDNEY carried about 16,000 Australian troops as the famed `Vung Tau Ferry'. Australian Clearance Divers carried out several thousand ship searches looking for bombs and other explosive devices. A total of eight officers and sailors of the RAN were killed and nearly 50 injured in the 10 years of our Navy's involvement in hostilities.
Early Goodwill Visits
Though the RAN did not become operationally involved in the Vietnam conflict until 1965, HMA Ships VAMPIRE and QUICKMATCH were the first ships in the area when they made a goodwill visit to Saigon in 1962.
