About US FAQ Cabins Education ... sound Imagine a website with information about every public land unit in the State of Alaska. It could provide answers to all of the most frequently asked questions that anyone coming to Alaska could pose. It could show you maps of each of Alaska's regions and link you to the homepages of the largest and most remote national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, state parks, and wild and scenic rivers in the country. Planning your trip would be easier than frying up a shortstack of sourdough pancakes.
Perhaps you want to know what it's like to raft the Tatshenshini/Alsek Rivers (or even just pronounce them); you could plan a bear viewing adventure to world famous Katmai National Park and Preserve; or you just might want to reserve a quiet, remote cabin for you and your family to enjoy, like the one on Lower Russian Lake. Whatever your activities, wouldn't it be nice to have all the options organized in one convenient website?

The aquarium also features a man-made tide pool that stimulates an awareness in visitors of the fragility of San Diego's intertidal environments. Click here for map.

64. Internet Brothers - Photography - Utah's National Parks
Includes photo galleries of some of Utah's national parks and mountain scenery.

Zion National Park
- Located in the very southwest corner of Utah, Zion is small in scale but grand in scenic vistas. From the mighty granite towers, to the cleansing of the rushing Virgin River, Zion is sure to excite one and all. The Internet Brothers stayed 3 days in April 1998, and loved every minute.
Bryce Canyon National Park
- A short two hour drive northeast from Zion, Bryce claims the highest elevation of all Utah's parks. Hovering near 9000 feet, most views are from above, on the canyon rim. Famous for amphitheatrical panoramas, geological erosion creates the marvelous spires, known as hoodoos.
Canyonlands National Park
- Three parks in one, Utah's largest entices visitors with the Islands in the Sky, the Maze, and the Needles districts. Experience nearly 3000 feet of elevation change as you 4-wheel it from area to area. Each district retains its own character and offers different opportunities for exploration.
Capitol Reef National Park
- The Waterpocket Fold, a 100-mile long wrinkle in the earth's crust known to geologists as a monocline, extends from nearby Thousand Lakes Mountain to the Colorado River. The national park was established to protect this colorful geologic feature, as well as the historical and cultural history that abounds in the area.
Arches National Park
- One of the largest concentrations of natural sandstone arches in the world. The arches and numerous other extraordinary geologic features, such as spires, pinnacles, pedestals and balanced rocks, are highlighted in striking foreground and background views created by contrasting colors, landforms and textures.

Geography and Map Division, Library of Congress

Search by Keyword Geographic Location Subject Index Creator Index ... Title Index The Mapping the National Parks collection documents the history, cultural aspects and geological formations of areas that eventually became National Parks. The collection consists of approximately 200 maps dating from the 17th century to the present, reflecting early mapping of the areas that would become four National Parks, as well as the parks themselves. Production of this collection is being supported by a generous gift from The Rockefeller Foundation. The mission of the Library of Congress is to make its resources available and useful to Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. The goal of the Library's National Digital Library Program is to offer broad public access to a wide range of historical and cultural documents as a contribution to education and lifelong learning. The Library of Congress presents these documents as part of the record of the past. These primary historical documents reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times. The Library of Congress does not endorse the views expressed in these collections, which may contain materials offensive to some readers.

Jasper National Park Jasper National Park is the largest of Canada's Rocky Mountain parks. Jasper encompass 4200 square miles of broad valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and wild rivers along the eastern slopes of the Rockies in western Alberta. There are over 660 miles of hiking trails, and guided tours to glaciers are provided by park services. Large numbers of elk, bighorn sheep, mule deer, grizzly bear, mountain lions, wolves and wolverines make their home in Jasper National Park, thus making the park one of the great protected ecosystems remaining in the Rocky Mountains. Willmore Wilderness Park, Alberta Willmore is a gentle wilderness located on the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Almost as large as Jasper, but not as trekked this park offers a unique walking and light mountain climbing experience. It's characterized by willow and grass valleys, enclosed by open, easy-to-climb foot ridges. Willmore has earned the distinction of "Walking in the Sky Country," because of the gentleness of its slopes and large basins. 71. Alaska National Parks And Forests - Bell's Alaska Canada Travel Guide
Includes indepth descriptions of towns, highways, ferries, history, accommodations, camping, railroads, fishing, visitor attractions and what to see and do.
http://www.alaskan.com/bells/parks.htm
National Parks By the stroke of a pen on December 1, 1978, President Jimmy Carter designated 56 million acres of Alaska as national monuments, creating 14 new monuments and enlarging three existing ones. The act more than doubled the size of the national park system, and set aside some little known, but highly significant, lands for enjoyment by present and future generations. Some of the land affected by the law-for example, a 550,000-acre addition to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve-simply expanded the acreage of a highly visual and popular visitor area, which can be seen from the deck of a cruise ship or tour boat. But in many more cases, the law designated vast areas that are little more than names on a map: Cape Krusenstern National Monument, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Aniakchak National Monument. Today, these areas are accessible primarily to those who are willing to take to a charter plane, a canoe, or an unmarked trail to do their exploring. As American settlers moved westward into the Rocky Mountains and many remarkable natural landmarks were discovered, a movement began to set aside the most important of these to insure their preservation for all to enjoy. The National Park Service was created on August 25, 1916. Stephen Tyng Mather is credited with being the impetus behind the Park Service and its strategies. Even before the Park Service was established, numerous parks had already been designated, starting with
