Voluntary Observing Ship (VOS) Program
Observations from ships form the basis of marine weather forecasts in coastal, offshore and high seas areas. The program operates at no cost to the vessel, with communications charges, observing equipment and reporting supplies furnished by the National Weather Service. Vessels participating in the VOS program are typically active commercial vessels with licensed crew. For further information on the VOS Program, visit the VOS Webpage and read the Mariner's Weather Log Magazine

Spiders and Scorpions This module is intended to serve as a source of basic information needed to implement an integrated pest management program for spiders and scorpions. Any pest management plan or activity must be formulated within the framework of the management zones where it will be implemented. Full consideration must be given to threatened and endangered species, natural and cultural resources, human health and safety, and the legal mandates of the individual parks. Recommendations in this module must be evaluated and applied in relation to these broader considerations.
Most people are familiar with the general appearance of both spiders and scorpions. Spiders and scorpions are both arachnids, which is a group of animals that also includes mites, ticks, and harvestmen (daddy longlegs). The arachnids are closely related to insects. Both spiders and scorpions, like insects, have a hard external body, but spiders and scorpions have four pairs of legs while insects have three pairs.

Leafy Spurge This module is intended to serve as a source of basic information needed to implement an integrated pest management program for leafy spurge. Full consideration must be given to threatened and endangered species, natural and cultural resources, human health and safety, and the legal mandates of the individual parks. Introduction
Leafy spurge ( Euphorbia esula
Indirect impacts of leafy spurge infestations include the loss of food sources for grazing animals caused by competition with native plants in pastures and on rangeland. Leafy spurge infestations may cut pasture production by 50%-75%. Since wildlife and cattle generally avoid grazing in infested areas, carrying capacity may be reduced by up to 75% (Lacey et al. 1984). Leafy spurge is toxic to most grazing mammals, and the milky latex contains substances that act as irritants, emetics, and purgatives for many animals when eaten.

Easter Seals The National AgrAbility Project provides training and educational support for the 24 state AgrAbility projects. These projects provide education and assistance to disabled farmers as described above for AgrAbility of Wisconsin. The national project requires a joint effort between state Cooperative Extension staff and staff from a non-profit disability organization, which is National Easter Seals. Training and education are provided through a national workshop, monthly newsletters, quarterly technical news, and e-mail. The website www.agrability-project.org was developed and will be further refined to provide information to state project staff and the general public. The website provides access to an assistive technology database listing more than 1000 items. A photo library recently became available to staff of state projects. The monthly newsletter is distributed electronically only. A National Workshop was planned and held in Omaha to provide training for state staff and others serving farmers with disabilities. Evaluation of all aspects of the project is a major component and has been initiated. A needs assessment for the state projects was developed and implemented. Plans have begun to determine how well the state projects are meeting the needs and expectations of the farmers whom they are serving. An impact survey has been developed that will indicate how well AgrAbiity is meeting the needs of farmers with disabilities.
