Order from Amazon.co.uk The Diary of a Napoleonic Foot Soldier - Jakob Walter, Mark Raeff (Editor)
This diary was left to an American university by the descendants of Jakob Walter who had emigrated there. When 18-year-old Jakob Walter was conscripted into Napoleon's army, he had no idea of the trials that lay ahead. The long gruelling marches on Prussia and Poland sacrificed countless men to the Emperor's plans. But it was the disastrous advance on Russia which tested human endurance on an epic scale. This is an account of Jakob Walter's privations during the long retreat from Moscow. The book is illustrated with contemporary engravings and includes a chronology of European events.

Alternate History What if France Won the Napoleonic Wars
About what the defeated French would have done if they had won the Napoleonic Wars.
WHAT 10 DEFEATED NATIONS PLANNED TO DO HAD THEY WON THE WAR 2. FRANCE (Napoleonic Wars, 1796-1815) Had France conquered Great Britain and Russia, Napoleon Bonaparte would have ruled Europe through his Continental System. Austria, Britain, Prussia, and Russia would have had limited internal autonomy while France retained the right to govern their foreign affairs. The rest of the European nations would have been ruled directly by Napoleon or indirectly through national leaders appointed by him. Among Napoleon's many plans was the unification of conquered Germany and Italy as French satellites. Also, Napoleon intended to create a French colonial empire in the Caribbean, in South America, and in the North American Louisiana Territory. Napoleon's France, if it had won, would have ruled not only Europe but the Americas except for a surrounded U.S.

150 years after these words were written, we can do nothing but echo Sir Archibald’s praise. These maps deserve the attention of every keen student of the military history of the Napoleonic period. Johnston’s atlas is a quite outstanding example of the steel-engraver’s art, and the detail and clarity of its maps far surpasses being improved upon even todayit is hard to imagine. Their original size is just 8" by 6" (230x152mm), yet they include even tiny details such as gardens; our reproductions, printed on A3 3uper paper (13" x 19" /329mm x 483mm), are enlarged by 100%, allowing this to be more fully appreciated. In addition, we are offering sets of campaign maps (e.g., The Peninsula, Russia 1812) at special discount rates, and can also supply custom sets to order. Mail us at info@village-atlas.com for further information on these and academic orders.

What is the Napoleonic Wars OnLine? The Napoleonic Wars OnLine (NWOL) is a multiplayer simulation of combat and diplomacy during the Wars of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars (approximately 1793 to 1815). Players representing 13 European nations form alliances and coalitions, declare wars, and command armies and fleets in battle, seeking to expand the power and influence of their home country and achieve control over the continent. The game presently contains three modules; Gathered In Their Masses (GITM) portrays combat between armies on land; Placed Alongside The Enemy (PATE) portrays naval combat; and Revolution and Reaction (RAR) handles diplomacy and international affairs. A module for economics and finance, Sinews of War (SOW), is being added to NWOL as development continues. For a history of a sample NWOL campaign, see the Grimma campaign of 1794.

Introduction
At the outbreak of the Napoleonic wars Sweden, once a great power, was politically as well as economically only a middling power in the game of European power politics. With a population of only 3.4 million, Finland and Swedish Pomerania included, and the public finances based almost solely on a weak agrarian sector it would certainly have been in Sweden’s best interest to stay out of the huge conflagration engulfing the European continent in the years 1805 to 1815. That was not to be; Sweden was to fight no less than four campaigns during the Napoleonic wars, and even if the forces involved and the casualties suffered in theses campaigns were small compared to those of the huge campaigns fought by the great powers of the time, for Sweden they meant a considerable commitment in both money and manpower, and actually brought the country to the brink of destruction. Two of these campaigns, the farcical little war against France in Swedish Pomeranian the years 1805 - 1807, and the epic struggle against Russia and Denmark-Norway in 1808 - 1809 were fought solely due to the incompetence and pig-headed stupidity of king Gustavus Adolphus IV (1792 - 1809). Gustavus wisely kept Sweden out of the Revolutionary wars and joined the armed neutrality with Denmark and Russia in 1800 to keep out of harms way, but his mind changed after the arrest and execution of the duc d’Enghien in 1804, an event which led Gustavus to view Napoleon as nothing short of evil incarnate, as a man capable of any heinous act to topple the righteous rulers and nobles of the

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars
Napoleon Bonaparte might not have an item of footwear named after him (unlike his eventual nemesis), but he still managed to become one of the world's greatest military tacticians (or a jumped-up little megalomaniac, depending on which history books you read). Napoleon Bonaparte might not have an item of footwear named after him (unlike his eventual nemesis), but he still managed to become one of the world's greatest military tacticians (or a jumped-up little megalomaniac, depending on which history books you read). The vertically-challenged vanquisher also claimed that history was "the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon", so it's unclear how he would have felt about being the star of his own 'historical' computer game. Nevertheless, Bonaparte's celebrated campaigns are about to be recreated with unprecedented fidelity in GSC Game World's Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars.
Like the Tom Jones of computer games, the first Cossacks was one of those titles that came out of nowhere and went on to sell millions. The Ukrainian RTS captivated gamers with its historical zgameplay (depicting real-life battles), a powerful engine that made the individual civilisations come to life, and - the feature that has come to characterise all of GSC's strategy offerings - the sheer number of troops you could create.
The Emperor's New Clothes
Now, Cossacks is back, in full 3D no less. The historic setting is still there, this time focusing on Napoleon's campaigns during the early 19th Century. The population count has been stepped-up, allowing for up to 64,000 units on a map simultaneously, and the engine is a shiny new homegrown model.
