Wyoming Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic is enormous. This site can not and does not index all lesson resources. That would be impossible, as sites appear and disappear with astonishing rapidity. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. The name probably comes from the Spanish word monta±a ("mountain"). The state ranks fourth in size but has a low population and population density, with much of the state being rural. The economy is primarily ranching-based, with some agricultural crops (wheat, barley, sugar beets) and a significant lumber and mineral industry. The western one-third of the state is primarily mountainous terrain, while the eastern two-third is part of the northern Great Plains. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, modern-day Montana became Montana Territory in 1864 and later became the 41st state in 1889. The state became the first to elect a female member of Congress, Jeannette Rankin. Montana's people are largely homogenous, with 89.5 percent of the population white (but with a sizable American Indian representation at 6.2 percent). The state is generally regarded as Republican; many are surprised to hear that the state has a Democratic governor (Brian Schweitzer), Democratic-controlled legislature (the Montana State Legislature), and one Democratic U.S. Senator (Max Baucus).

COALITION FOR LOCAL POWER Five Montana Cities Bid For Power-Delivery Business By REBECCA SMITH
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
July 1, 2005 Seeking to reassert local control of Montana's biggest utility, a consortium of five cities in the state recently put forward an unsolicited offer to buy NorthWestern Corp.'s energy-delivery business for $1.18 billion plus the assumption of $825 million in debt. NorthWestern's board rejected the offer last week, saying the price and terms were inadequate. Now the consortium plans to take its proposal directly to shareholders. The offer, for $32.50 a share, reflects broad dissatisfaction in Montana with electricity deregulation. The state's biggest utility, formerly known as Montana Power Co., dominated the state's energy market for a century. But it sold nearly all its generating plants to a unit of PPL Corp. in 1999, and then sold its electric- and gas-delivery business to NorthWestern, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., to focus on a new telecommunications venture called Touch America.
Within a few years, both NorthWestern and Touch America had filed for bankruptcy protection, while PPL was accused of exercising too much control over the local power market. Power prices rose in the state as a result of the Western energy crisis, causing further instability and discontent.

    50 pages
ISBN 1-903448-88-3 This latest volume in the Discovering Cities series is targeted at both general readers and post-16 geography students who wish to explore the dynamic cityscapes of Glasgow. The volume is copiously illustrated with historical and contemporary maps and an array of contrasting images of the city. These perspectives provide vivid exemplification of a city that has, and still is, experiencing substantial and rapid transformation. The text is divided into three substantive sections. Firstly the author provides a concise historical overview of Glasgow's early settlement and industrialism. The role of Glasgow as a nineteenth century industrial powerhouse and the impacts of this on the morphology of the city and its population are presented clearly. Whilst this section is essentially a summary of the evolution of the city, it is written in an accessible way that provides a useful context for the next section 'Towards the post-industrial city'.
