MT GOP Ebrief ~ 5/21/2004 News Briefs What do Democrats think of our President? House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said recently, "I believe that the president's leadership and the actions taken in Iraq demonstrate an incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment, and experience…Bush is an incompetent leader. In fact, he's not a leader. He's a person who has no judgment, no experience and no knowledge of the subjects that he has to decide upon. Not to get personal about it, but the president's capacity to lead has never been there.” Source: “House Minority Leader Blasts Bush, GOP Fires Back”, GOPUSA Talon News, May 21, 2004 Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) on Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry, "With John Kerry on domestic policy, its tax, spend and redistribute income… The man now wants to be the commander in chief of U.S. armed forces? Board Meeting
March 2, 2005 A MAGIP Board meeting was held March 2, 2005 at 1:30pm. Board members Catherine Maynard, Robin Trenbeath, Gerry Daumiller, Bob Holliday, Annette Cabrera, Steve Shannon, Tom Reynolds, and Tom Potter attended in person at the Montana Law Library Conference Room in Helena. Margie Lubinski attended via conference call. Bryant Ralston also attended the meeting. Workshop Proposal
Ralston submitted his written proposal for MAGIP to sponsor a one-day workshop by Larry Sugarbaker of Tomlinson Associates on planning and managing a GIS. This workshop would help GIS professionals bridge the chasm between themselves and decision makers. Larry is the former manager of GIS for the Washington Department of Natural Resources. Trenbeath worked with Sugarbaker in Washington and highly recommends him, saying his work lead to state agencies using a GIS model to integrate the strategic plans of agencies and their information technology divisions. Trenbeath proposed that the workshop be held in conjunction with the state Information Technology conference December 7-9. MAGIP needs to contact other organizations such as the Montana Association of Counties, Montana League of Cities and Towns, and Montana Association of Registered Land Surveyors about a joint sponsorship. Holliday said we need to poll potential attendees to narrow down the focus of the seminar, which normally lasts two days, and that we should look into certifying it for Continuing Education credits. The board voted to authorize Ralston to contact other organizations to secure co-sponsors for the workshop.

89. Max Baucus, Senator From Montana: Education
Investing in our education system will lead to a stronger montana That s whyI ll continue to actively support montana s education system in Congress.
http://baucus.senate.gov/issues/education.cfm
home issues education Montana Issues Agriculture ... Need Help? Education Montanans are fortunate to have some of the best students and teachers in America. In fact, our eighth graders earned the top scores in the country in the science portion of a recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) evaluation. They placed second in the math section. These latest scores build on a history of outstanding performances on national exams. Our hard-working, high-quality teachers are the key to these successes; their dedication to their profession and to our children drives our education system. Moreover, our students' high test scores are a good sign that Montana's students are being prepared to meet the challenges they will face in the new millennium. Education is key to a strong economic future so we have to continuously work together to strengthen our education system. During my time in the Senate, I've been proud to be involved in efforts that have invested more money in our schools to reduce class sizes, improve school facilities, and attract high quality teachers. The strength and success of our education system has been built on our common goal to provide our children with the best opportunities to succeed in life. I'm committed to that goal and to working together with all Montanans to meet our educational needs and to build on our education successes. Together, we can ensure that the best is yet to come.

Always be sure that any school you choose is accredited by state and/or national boards of cosmetology by contacting the associations mentioned below and the appropriate state board. The institution you choose must be accredited and able to issue forms needed to apply for a student visa. Be sure that any certificate you receive recognised in your home country, as you will be required to return home after your course of study. Consider how long your programme of study will take, the total cost of the programme (tuition plus all living expenses times the number of years in the programme), and whether you will be allowed to use equipment or receive work experience. NEWS SPORTS CLASSIFIEDS ... Cultural Treasures Guide Archived Story Indian Studies Law led to culture clash - March 11, 2005
BY JODI RAVE Of the Missoulian Too many people felt they had too much at stake.
So when the state's Indian Studies Law was enacted in 1973, it seemed destined for failure. ''We might have been able to predict what was going to happen,'' said Joyce Silverthorne, Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal education director and a former state Board of Public Education member.
''For the first time, people wanted to hear what Indians had to say.''
But for many of those Natives, education had been a painful experience. When they arrived in teacher education classrooms, their pain surfaced. And some directed it at those trying to learn about Native culture and history.
It was already a potentially hostile situation. Teachers were resentful of the course content and bitter that some - not all - of them needed Native studies certification to keep their jobs.
In 1972, state lawmakers rewrote the Montana Constitution to include an provision that called for preserving the cultural integrity of Native people. To live up to the mandate, lawmakers passed HB342, or the Indian Studies Law, a year later.
