CULTURE
The cultural climate of the Principality which had developed particularly rapidly in the seventeenth century with the encouragement of Prince Honoré III is one of the principal concerns of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, following the example of Prince Pierre of Monaco who was the friend of the greatest writers, painters and composers of his time. A department of the Government of the Principality, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, whose head is Monsieur Rainier Rocchi, under the authority of the Department of the Interior, is responsible for promoting the cultural development of the Principality by, on one hand, providing facilities for all forms of prestigious cultural expression and, on the other, encouraging artistic creativity.
THE GREAT CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS The Prince Pierre Foundation Officially established on 17th February 1966 by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, in honor of his father Prince Pierre of Monaco, is today headed by H.S.H. Princess Caroline whose interest in the world of Letters and Arts is well known. Its purpose is to encourage culture and progress in Letters and the Arts, in particular by the creation and awarding of prizes.

Monaco - Monte Carlo Culture With more than 300 days a year of sunshine, residents in Monaco can take advantage of the Mediterranean, and all of its seaside activities. Moreover, Monaco's close proximity to the Southern Alps, which are only 1 hour away by car, allows for easy access to the ski slopes. A climate of security reigns in Monaco Monte-Carlo making this prestigious setting even more appreciable. Security specialists are unanimous; it would be difficult to live in a place safer than Monaco. One policeman for every 100 residents, a system of 24-hour video surveillance spanning the entire surface area of the Principality, including the majority of residence halls, a transmitting system worthy of the best armies in the world, the possibility of blocking all access in and out of the Principality in several minutes. And we mustn't forget the surveillance teams inside of the Casino and in all of the gambling establishments and hotels. Residents in Monaco, representing 108 different nationalities, can place their children in different schools, which are either a part of or affiliated with the Ministry of Education.

Flag
of Monaco Background:
The Principality at the Cote d'Azu has only one commune, Monaco, whose limits are the same as those of the stater.
Economic development was spurred in the late 19th century with a railroad linkup to France and the opening of a casino in Monte-Carlo.
On 11 April 1950 Prince Rainier officially became monarch, succeeding his grandfather Prince Louis II. With the marriage to U.S. actress Grace Kelly in 1956, Prince Rainier brought Hollywood glamour to his tiny Mediterranean state and put Monaco on the international stage. Since then, the principality's mild climate, splendid scenery and gambling facilities have made Monaco world famous as a tourist and recreation center and a haven for really rich people.
On Wednesday 6 April 2005 Prince RAINIER III has died aged 81.

The casino itself contains a theatre designed by the 19th-century French architect Charles Garnier, which is the home of the Opera de Monte Carlo. During the 1920s many of the works of the famous Ballets Russes of Sergey Diaghilev were given their premiers there. There is also a Monte-Carlo national orchestra. None Monaco Economy Back to Top Monaco's chief industry is tourism, and its facilities make it one of Europe's most luxurious resorts. Once a winter attraction, it now draws summer visitors as well to its beaches and expanded mooring facilities. The social life of Monte-Carlo revolves around the Place du Casino. The casino was built in 1861, and in 1967 its operations were taken over by the principality. Banking and finance and real estate are other valuable components of the services sector. The four sections, or quartiers, of Monaco are the town of Monaco, or “the Rock,” a headland jutting into the sea on which the old town is located ; La Condamine, the business district on the west of the bay, with its natural harbour; Monte-Carlo, including the gambling casino; and the newer zone of Fontvieille, in which various light industries have developed.
