    MAHA Missouri Waterfowl Hunting Wetlands
Missouri waterfowl hunting is about getting on ducks and geese. Opening weekend and a blue sky day yielded early season ducks well before the migration.
    Central and Mississippi Flyway
When it comes to waterfowl hunting it is all a matter of geography and that drives our Missouri waterfowl hunting. That geography is the convergence of the Missouri River, Upper Mississippi and the Ohio River watersheds into Missouri concentrating migratory waterfowl on large standing water structures. Add to this that the lower Missouri river basin is composed of three large sub-basins: the Northwest, Grand and Osage, that each contains large expanses of both natural and manmade calm and moving water surface surrounded by the river valley floors rich soil crop land. Waterfowl hunting in this region does yield both goose and duck from early season local wood ducks and geese to late season migrating mallards, light and dark geese. In general good waterfowl hunting throughout the season with density being a matter of degrees.

Wyandotte is one of the northeasternmost counties of Kansas. It is roughly triangular in shape, and lies principally between the Missouri and Kansas rivers. It is bounded on the north and west by Leavenworth County, on the north and east by the Missouri River; on the east by Jackson County, Missouri; and on the south by Johnson County and the Kansas River. Although Wyandotte County has the largest population of any in Kansas, it is the smallest county in the state, having an area of about 143 square miles. History and Development
[The writers have drawn freely upon the work of Dr. F. W. Blackmar, Kansas, A Cyclopedia of State History, 1912, for this section.] The early history of Wyandotte County is inseparable from that of the settling of the first town in the area, Wyandotte, which with several other communities is now called Kansas City, the state's largest city, with a population of nearly 125,000 [1935]. In their exploration of the Missouri River the French reached as far north as the mouth of Kansas river early in the eighteenth century, and soon there were numerous

For additional information, the KGS Geologic Maps of Kansas Page History Eighty-three counties, including Riley and Davis, were organized in 1855. The present Geary County was called Davis until 1889, having been named in honor of Jefferson Davis, who was Secretary of War when the counties were organized. The present irregular shape of the counties is the result of several changes in the boundaries. Before the white settlers came, Indians occupied the river valleys, and remains of their villages can still be found. The present Junction City, county seat of Geary County, was the site of a village of the Kaw tribe as late as 1856. It is probable that Coronado was the first white man to visit the area of the two counties, as he is generally believed to have found Quivira some place in this vicinity in 1642. In 1843 John Fremont traveled through this part of Kansas. The first white settler in the area that is now Riley County was Samuel Dyer, who operated a ferry on Big Blue river at Juniata, which is a few miles north of the river's mouth. Several historic roads crossed this part of Kansas. The Leavenworth and Pike's Peak Express passed through Fort Riley, and the fort was a station on the Butterfield Overland Dispatch Route. The south branch of the California Trail passed through Manhattan.
