Data Collection in Missouri
Missouri is most interested in data at the state level, and gathers institutional data to monitor state priorities for public higher education. The CBHE (Coordinating Board for Higher Education) has been able to modify its vision for higher education while also incorporating the governor's goals for higher education under the "Show Me Results" program, a government accountability initiative. The most recent strategic plan collects all of the goals for higher education under three broad values: access, quality, and efficiency. Within these areas, the CBHE and the Department of Higher Education collect data on the achievement of the statewide initiatives and goals by all the public institutions of higher education. Under the area of access, the CBHE gathers information on educational access and attainment of all Missourians. In terms of quality, the CBHE monitors four areas of information: student preparation, institutional environment, teacher preparation, and student performance. For efficiency, the CBHE engages in mission review and differentiation and examines the ways in which access and quality are achieved through technology-based delivery systems.

Bicycle/Pedestrian Program - General Information Policies Programs MoBPAC Committee Bicycle Touring ... Resources A Bicycle/Pedestrian Program has existed within the department since 1991. In July 1993, the program was expanded through the hiring of a full-time program coordinator. The program has been housed within various units within the department. Currently, the program is located in the Long-Range Planning unit.
The purpose of the program is to encourage and coordinate efforts to improve conditions for walking and bicycling within the state. This involves reviewing and recommending bicycle and pedestrian friendly standards for transportation projects. To this end, the program has developed the General Pedestrian and Bicycle Guide that has been approved by department managers and is currently in an implementation phase. Since much non-motorized transportation occurs off of the state system, the program works with local governments and regional planning agencies to improve access for these modes, while at the same time improving safety. To this end, a Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee was established in the Spring of 1998. The department's program provides support to this committee. The program deals with all 4 Es of bicycle and pedestrian planning: Engineering, Education, Enforcement and Encouragement.

Aviation - General Information History
Missouri's role in aviation began in 1945 under the Department of Resources and Development. Communities, under the Memorial Airport Act, could receive a one time $10,000 grant for airport establishment. In 1965, an aviation section was formed in the Division of Commerce and Industrial Development. Airports were eligible for grants up to $25,000 with a $150,000 annual budget.
The section was moved in 1974 to the Transportation Department and an Aviation Trust Fund was established to assist in airport maintenance and publish an aeronautical chart. The annual budget was increased to approximately $200,000 and the staff increased from two to five. In 1980, the Highway Department merged with the Transportation Department and in 1989, began distributing federal airport funding to general aviation airports under the state block grant program.

Innovation and Tradition
Ann Roberts Divine
Nothing is more traditional in higher education than the core of general education on which specialized study is founded. In recent years, there has been much focus on general education, as states and institutions throughout the country have re-examined and revised general education requirements with the intention of better preparing students for the challenges of greater complexity, diversity, and technology. Missouri and, by extension, St. Louis Community College (SLCC) are no exceptions. What is exceptional is the bold approach that SLCC has taken toward general education, resulting in a well-considered, unified program of general education that gives students a firm foundation for continuing their studies in any specialized area. In June 2000, the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education introduced new guidelines for general education that apply to both two- and four-year institutions and are intended to ensure the transfer and articulation of general education work among public institutions. One change is that the total credit hours required for lower-division general education rose from 39 to 42. But more significantly, instead of the old distribution model – one from Column A, two from Column B – the program is now competency based. Instead of loose assumptions about the content and effect of courses, the state introduced knowledge and skill goals, to be attained by the student through the achievement of competencies in the standard general education disciplines.

About Drury University
Drury offers bright, achieving students a commitment to personalized education and diversity. Students expect and are expected to explore great ideas and confront questions that will successfully prepare them for dynamic careers and enhanced lives as active global participants. A Drury education combines professional training with the liberal arts. More than 50 majors and academic programs are available. But a quality education goes beyond the standards of academic scholarship. Drury enriches the whole person as each student explores new ideas, challenges beliefs, learns to think critically and eventually finds new ways to understand the world outside the classroom.
Every student earns a minor in global studies through a unique core curriculum called Global Perspectives 21, which combines the sciences, social sciences and humanities to enhance communication and problem-solving skills.
A key to the Drury experience is the way students develop friendships with faculty. A professor teaches every class; there are no teaching assistants. In classroom discussions, frequent conversation outside of class, and undergraduate research projects, students and faculty treat each other as colleagues.
