Parental Involvement In Teen Education
Studies show time and time again that children do better when their parents are involved with their school and education. That doesn't change once our kids are teens. Private vs. Public Schools: What's the Difference?
(Page 1 of 3) Your goal is to find a school that will meet your child's needs. But how do you choose between a public school and a private school? By Victoria Thorp and Jesse James, GreatSchools.net Staff
    Cost
Public schools cannot charge tuition. They are funded through federal, state and local taxes. When you pay your taxes, you are paying for your child's education and the education of other children in your community. Private schools cost money. Private schools do not receive tax revenues, but instead are funded through tuition, fundraising, donations and private grants. According to the National Association of Independent Schools, the median tuition for private day schools in the United States is close to $12,000 for grades 1 to 3, $13,000 for grades 6 to 8 and $15,000 for grades 9 to 12. The median tuition for boarding schools is $12,000 for grades 1 to 3, $27,000 for grades 6 to 9, and $28,000 for grades 9 to 12. Parochial schools generally charge somewhat less.

Information Request History of Missouri Military Academy Missouri Military Academy 1903 era For more than a century, Missouri Military Academy has been leading the way to success for young men from across the United States and around the world. The Academy was founded in November 1889 when the citizens of Mexico, Missouri donated funds and 20 acres of land for the purpose of establishing a military school. The task of building MMA fell to Col. A.F. Fleet, a US Civil War veteran, who erected the campus' first buildings southwest of the city. When fire destroyed the school's original site in the fall of 1896, Col. Fleet removed the cadets to Culver Military Academy (now the Culver Academies). In 1900, the Businessmen's Association of Mexico and Col. A.K. Yancey of the Alabama Military Institute rebuilt MMA. The City of Mexico assisted the project with a contribution of $10,000, which was used to purchase the grounds on which the modern Academy is located. On Sept. 20 of that year, the doors of the Academy opened once more. Upon Col. Yancey's death in 1901, his business partner, Col. William D. Fonville, assumed the office of superintendent and oversaw the construction of additional barracks. After his retirement in 1911, Col. Fonville was succeeded by Col. W.R. Kohr and, three years later in 1914, by Col. E.Y. Burton.

What are independent schools? How are independent schools unique? What types of schools are in ISSL? How are the categories of independent schools defined? ... How do I apply to a secondary independent school? What are independent schools? Independent schools are independently governed by a board of trustees which allows schools the opportunity to define their own mission and the freedom to design a quality curriculum which best meets their mission. Their financial support for independent schools does not come from taxes or church funds, but rather from tuition-paying families and charitable contributions. Families value the fact that independent schools work hard to create communities where students thrive in small classes led by quality faculty members who set academic standards consistent with the mission of the school. Families also like the fact that independent schools stress a well-rounded education by encouraging students to participate in sports, the arts and a variety of other co-curricular activities. Indeed, parents are also provided with substantial opportunities to get involved in the life of the school. These important qualities were reinforced in the National Public Opinion Poll of Perceptions of Independent Schools commissioned by the National Association of Independent Schools. This poll found that "independent schools are seen as most different in offering a more personalized, customized education, and an environment that is civil and controlled. Small class sizes, individualized attention, values, manners, and discipline are the most particular factors describing differences perceived between public and independent schools." If such qualities are important to you and your child, then the next step is to find the right independent school for your child!

Skepticism about the program probably is due to perceived ties to Scientology. If it was the Southern Baptists, I don't think it would be scrutinized as much." [Src: St. Petersburg Times, Mar. 30, 2003] Well Justice Babb, ABC TV Wear News in Pensacola, Florida has just published a three part series on alleged child abuse in two Baptist-run boarding schools right down there in Florida. Before linking to the series it might be useful to get some background material on where these schools came from, who accredits them, and Wiley Cameron and Michael Palmerthe Baptist preachers behind them. TACCCA and Wiley Cameron . The Roloff Schools are a string of Christian boarding schools for wayward teens founded by Lester Roloff, a fundamentalist Baptist preacher. In the 1970s Texas health authorities investigated the schools for allegations of whipping, handcuffing and using other abusive tactics on teenagers. The schools protested state scrutiny and the case ended up in the US Supreme Court which ruled that Roloff would have to abide by state licensing laws. So in 1985 two Roloff schools, the Rebekah Home for Girls and Anchor Home for Girls, moved to Missouri. Another school, Mountain Park Baptist Boarding Academy, moved to Missouri from Mississippi in 1987 after a judge ordered teens to be removed. The founder of Mountain Park had been trained by Roloff. Roloff died in a plane crash in 1982 and was replaced by a man named Wiley Cameron.

Schools By State Schools By Type There are two schools of thought about ADHD. One says that ADHD is over diagnosed and that ADHD medications are over prescribed, and that really only a small percentage of people actually has the disorder. Some people who agree with this analysis point to the influence of the television, videos, and computer games, which are designed to jump from image to image and soundbite to soundbite, and which tend to fragment the attention and over stimulate the mind. They suggest that these influences make normal children behave in a way that seems hyperactive, which may swell the numbers of those demonstrating the symptoms associated with ADHD. For More Information About Boarding Schools In Florida, Click Here. The other group says that ADHD is under diagnosed and that it is a more common disorder than is generally thought. Television and computer games may produce similar behavior in some people, but ADHD is still a genuine, clinical problem, and many people could benefit from appropriate ADHD treatment.
