Stone County Secondary and Elementary Educational System The public education system in Stone County is comprised of one school system consisting of four schools: Perkinston Elementary (Grades K-5)
Stone Elementary School (Grades K-5)
Stone Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Stone High School (Grades 9-12) The enrollment is 2,645 students serviced by 189 certified employees, of which 63 hold Master level degrees and 1 holds a Specialist degree. Support staff consists of 168 non-certified employees. The operating budget for 1999-2000 is 13.7 million. In 1999, Stone County citizens put 2.2 million dollars into the local school budget. The student-teacher ratio in the Stone County Schools is 15 to 1, and expenditure per pupil is $5,560.00. The two elementary schools offer varied programs for students, including computer-based instruction. Stone Middle School offers basic programs including computer labs, foreign language, art, and music, which are available for enrichment and/or remediation. Stone High School offers thirty-eight different academic courses, seventeen vocational courses, and four non-academic courses. In addition, extracurricular activities are available for students including, but not limited to athletics, band, and choral music.
