University of Mississippi Medical Center Financial Aid Student Housing TOEFL The School of Health Related Professions was authorized by the board of trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning in October 1971. The school has grown rapidly and now has an enrollment of more than 370 students. Eighty-three percent of its graduates remain in Mississippi for their initial employment, and 95 percent pass licensure or credential requirements. The baccalaureate degree is offered in clinical laboratory sciences, cytotechnology, dental hygiene, and health information management. The master’s degree is offered in physical therapy and occupational therapy. A certificate program is offered in emergency medical technology-paramedic. The University of Mississippi Medical Center The Medical Center, established in 1955, is the state’s only health science campus. The original eight-story building is now the nucleus of a major academic health science complex. The campus includes Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, and Dentistry; Graduate Programs in the Medical and Clinical Health Sciences; and the 665-bed University Hospitals and Clinics, teaching hospitals for all programs and the state’s principal tertiary care centers. The Medical Center occupies a 164-acre tract of University-owned land in the heart of the capital city. The Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, and Dentistry all have their own buildings on campus. The dental education building and a major classroom addition were completed in 1977; a clinical science expansion to the medical school was occupied in 1978; and the Verner Smith Holmes Learning Resource Center was occupied in 1982. A new ambulatory care center—the University Medical Pavillion—was completed in 1987, and an addition to the Holmes Center in 1990. The Arthur C. Guyton Laboratory Research Building opened in 1993.

Mississippi's commitment to education is historic, constantly upgrading the skills of teachers, familiarizing them with the latest national teaching techniques and trends, and maintaining competitive salary levels to keep some of the nation's finest educators in Mississippi.
The state set impressive national examples by introducing the first state-supported school for the handicapped, the first state college for women, the first coeducational college to grant degrees to women, and the oldest land-grant college for black Americans.
Responding in 1987 to a national concern about mathematics and science, the Mississippi Legislature established the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science . MSMS, the nation's fourth oldest school of its kind, is a residential high school for academically able students, and offers a college preparatory curriculum which emphasizes instruction in mathematics and science. In addition, courses in the humanities, computer technology, foreign languages, music, and art are offered to allow students to participate in a well rounded curriculum
