(Photos courtesy of search Web sites and UW-Eau Claire) In the two weeks after Halloween, three college men disappeared from Minneapolis, Collegeville, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Around the same time, a 21-year-old woman in Brainerd failed to show up for work, and has not been seen since. Despite constant media exposure and massive search efforts, all four are still missing, and authorities are still waiting for the one tip or stroke of luck that might yield some answers. If the cases are linked, a break in one might solve them all. But at this point it seems just as likely all four are only connected by a tragic coincidence.

Iowa Code Chapter 694 contains laws concerning missing persons, covering issues in relation to complaints of missing persons, reports handled by law enforcement agencies and the establishment of the Missing Person Information Clearinghouse. This chapter mandates the collection and dissemination of information on missing persons in the state of Iowa in order to enable a better perspective of Iowa's missing person status. Click here to go to "Terminology Used in this Report" Statistics for the year 2001 again show a decrease in the number of missing person reports filed. 2001 statistics show adults accounting for 14 per cent of the total missing person reports filed. This compares with adult cases of 9 per cent between 1989 through 1994, 10 per cent between 1995 through 1997, 11 per cent in 1998 and 12 per cent in 1999 and 2000. In comparing the missing person reports to the total population of the State of Iowa*, statistics show that the number of missing juvenile reports filed is decreasing and the total juvenile population in the state of Iowa is also decreasing. The total juvenile population statistics were found at the U.S. Census Bureau State Population Estimates.
