The Mesa Police Department's Missing Persons Unit is dedicated in doing thorough investigations and doing all that we can to locate your missing person. Our goal is to do so quickly and minimize the possibility of harm to the missing person. We enjoy returning lost or missing children to their families as soon as possible. Missing Adults Runaways Making a Missing Person's Report Missing Persons Photos Missing Adults In Arizona, thousands of adults are reported missing each year. Some people have seen on television that you must wait 24 or even 72 hours to report someone missing. This is not true. There is no waiting period. In fact, the sooner we have a case the sooner we can get to work in helping you find the missing person. Very few missing adults are the victim of foul play or some other criminal act. Most missing persons are found or return home within just a few days. If any foul play is suspected the investigation changes and escalates accordingly. Being a missing person is not a crime. Adults can be missing if they choose to. They can chose to leave work, ignore friends and even family. Because of this, law enforcement is quite limited in what they can do. Even if law enforcement does locates the person, they can not divulge any information about that person without specific permission from that person.

Citizen Watch Programs / Missing Persons Missing Persons Charlotte Police Department Missing Person Unit The Missing Persons Unit is currently staffed by four detectives, one investigative technician and one supervisor. In a typical year, the Charlotte Police Department receives over 3,500 missing persons reports. Approximately 70% of those reports involve juveniles between the age of 13 and 17 which also constitute the largest number of habitual runaways. Adults account for the other 30%. On the average in any given year less than 10 reports truly involve foul play. Missing Person or Runaway The primary responsibility of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Missing Persons Unit is for missing persons who are truly missing. Yes, there is a difference between a missing person and a runaway. A missing person case has an unexplained disappearance; where as the runaway has a motive to disappear and does not want to be found. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Missing Persons Detectives are very willing to assist you in finding your child. Some runaway cases may last months. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the Missing Persons Detectives are willing to assist you in your search and will help dealing with other police departments, if needed. Please be patient. The detectives are working a large number of cases at any given time.

To serve as a membership association for non-profit missing and exploited children's organizations and to support the endeavors of the Membership on behalf of missing and exploited children, their families, and the community-at-large. These purposes are strictly non-commercial and not-for-profit.
OVERVIEW

AMECO is an association of missing and exploited children's organizations in the U.S. and Canada founded in 1994. AMECO was founded by a group of non-profit organizations that wanted to work together for three reasons: To combine their efforts in influencing the policies and services for missing and exploited children. To raise awareness among the public of the work of the non-profit organizations. To create a way for the public to distinguish between reputable organizations and those created merely as a fundraising vehicle to take advantage of the large number of people who want to contribute to missing children organizations. In the past, instances of unethical fundraising techniques for missing and exploited children by organizations offering few if any services with the donations received have tainted the entire group of non-profit organizations. Certification by AMECO validates the integrity and professionalism of the member organizations.

Media under fire for missing persons coverage
Uneven emphasis on attractive white girls, women criticized
Most of the missing adults tracked by the FBI are men. More than one-in-five of those abducted or kidnapped are black. But you might not get that impression from the news media, and some journalism watchdogs are now taking the industry to task for what they see as a disproportionate emphasis on cases in which white girls and women - overwhelmingly upper-middle class and attractive - disappear. Television executives, who receive much of the criticism, defend their coverage. They stress that cases such as the recent disappearance in Aruba of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway of Alabama are extraordinary, and would be newsworthy no matter her background. Attention to few
Indeed, no critic denies that the Holloway case and other disappearances are wrenching for those involved. But some insist that media attention on so few people overshadows the more than 100,000 active files on missing adults and children currently tracked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "To be blunt, blond white chicks who go missing get covered and poor, black, Hispanic or other people of color who go missing do not get covered," said Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Washington-based Project for Excellence in Journalism. "You're more likely to get coverage if you're attractive than if you're not."

Mother Missing! Please Help. Sharon Shechter
Help 3 children find their mother. It's always sad when children lose a mother. This page is a plea to you to help them find her. Please imagine the pain that Sharon's family is going through and do what you can to help. Each day gets harder, says a family member, because they have to go to bed and wake up knowing that this mother of three is not with her children. "I hope we hear something," says a distraught aunt. A $5,000 reward is offered, but don't do it for the money. Do it because you'd want it done for you if your mother disappeared. If you've seen her, please call (585) 428-5310 or (585) 423-9300. If you haven't seen her, please click here to pass this on to others who might. Case on file at http://www.rinokids.com/Adults/Schecter/index.html We hope you help. Origins: At about 5:00 PM on 9 December 2001, 36-year-old Sharon Shechter disappeared from the vicinity of her Perinton, New York, home and has not been seen or heard from since. Three days later her Dodge Caravan was discovered at a Days Inn in the nearby town of Gates; police found blood inside the vehicle, but they have not yet uncovered evidence of foul play.

Desert Thunder Motor Sports (DTM) and Nation's Missing Children Organization (MNCO) will introduce "Racing for the Missing" at the 1 mile paved road course in Los Angles on September 6. NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series driver Darrell LaMoure, travels the Southwest profiling missing persons on his #17 Chevrolet Monte Carlo at each race, including the images of 14 missing persons on the vehicle transporter.
DTM and NMCO will be profiling Amy Bradley, age 25, who mysteriously vanished from the "Rhapsody of the Seas" Cruise Ship while vacationing with her family on March 24, 1998 in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. The parents of Amy Bradley will be traveling from Chesterfield, Virginia to attend the event.
At each race, LaMoure profiles a missing person on the hood of his race car. At the L.A. Street Race, NMCO and DRUM will also introduce "Kristen's Act", H.R. 2780, introduced to Congress on August 5, 1999 by Rep. Sue Myrick of North Carolina. This legislation would support families of missing adults, mandating assistance to law enforcement and families whom the legislation is named for, Kristen Modaferri, a North Carolina resident, vanished from a summer school program in San Francisco, California on June of 1997. LaMoure's vehicle will also advertise this legislation.
