Oregon Missing Children and Adults Vanished, but never Forgotten May God Bless Each year across the United States, there are as many as 200,000 adults who are listed as missing. The majority show up quickly - some having disappeared by choice, some found dead, by accident or foul play. Yet others, roughly 11,000 in 2002, remain missing. About 3400 of them are deemed by law enforcement to be endangered or abducted against their will. In many of these cases investigators have little to go on other than a strong belief that the victims were not the kind of people who would have walked away from their lives. At least 600,000 children under the age of 18 are reported missing each year. As many as one-quarter of these abductions are classified as family abductions. For those 18 years old, they are ineligible for a variety of resources available for solving missing children cases. The charter for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has an age limit of 18 years for their services. When a child turns up missing, police are required to register all information about the case, including details on possible suspects, with the national Crime Information Center (NCIC). This database can be quickly accessed by law enforcement agencies across the country. There was no center such as this for missing adults. In 1998, Congresswoman Sue Myrick of North Carolina was persuaded by a couple whose daughter Kristen had disappeared 3 weeks after her 18th birthday, to back national funding for a center like NCMEC, but for adults. Two years later, a bill passed creating Kristen's Law. It provided $1.8 million dollars to a Phoenix based Center For Missing Adults, which among other things, is putting together a national registry of missing adults that will serve as a central repository of information accessible to the public, advocacy groups and law enforcement.

Perseus Partners with National Center for Missing Adults to Help Obtain Critical Information January 27, 2005, Braintree, MA - Perseus Development Corporation, the global leader in web-based survey and Enterprise Feedback Management solutions, is pleased to partner with the National Center for Missing Adults (NCMA), in order to facilitate and strengthen the national organization’s information feedback process. The NCMA is using Perseus' SurveySolutions® Enterprise to collect feedback from families of missing persons to gauge the Center’s performance associated with the handling of their missing persons case. Because the NCMA has an average of 1200 active missing person cases on-going each year, the collection of accurate information is vital. The NCMA, a division of the Nation’s Missing Children Organization, Inc., is part of a 501c (3) non-profit organization tasked by the US Department of Justice to serve as the nation clearinghouse for missing adults. The use of Perseus SurveySolutions Enterprise is helping to fulfill a mandate: since receiving their designation as a national clearinghouse for missing adults, the NCMA is required to conduct feedback surveys and report the results. "For the first time, we can use an online solution to truly benefit our management team, and in turn, those we support," said Eric Paschal, Information Systems Program Director at the NCMA. "Our organization currently has ten employees to handle administrative and case management issues. Given the large amount of people we serve, it's imperative that we utilize efficient and effective software solutions at every opportunity to enable us to maximize the level of service our staff is able to offer."

Customer Background
Perseus was contacted by The National Center for Missing Adults (NCMA) to facilitate and strengthen the national organization's information feedback process. The National Center for Missing Adults, a division of the Nation's Missing Children Organization, Inc., is part of a 501c (3) non-profit organization tasked by the US Department of Justice to serve as the nation clearinghouse for missing adults. The NCMA was formally established after the passage of Kristen's Law (H.R. 2780) by the 106th United States Congress on October 26th, 2000 (S11181). As directed by H.R. 2780, NCMA provides services and coordination between various government agencies, law enforcement, media, and most importantly - the families of missing adults. The NCMA also maintains a national database of missing adults determined to be "endangered" or otherwise at-risk. Customer Challenge
The National Center for Missing Adults needed to fulfill a mandate: since receiving their designation as a national clearinghouse for missing adults, the NCMA is required to conduct feedback surveys and report the results. It became imperative that they formalize their feedback process from families of missing persons to gauge the NCMA's performance associated with the handling of their missing persons case. Because the Center has an average of 1200 active missing person cases on-going each year, the collection of accurate information is vital.

Many adults who go missing are never reported. Every year the media picks up a few high-profile stories of adults who suddenly go missing. People like Chandra Levy or Laci Peterson. For each of these woman's anguished families, there are untold numbers of other families who are coping with the agony and chaos that comes when a loved one is missing. Attorney General Jim Petro Helps Crime Stoppers Create Statewide Toll-Free Tip Line, Web Site To Help Find Missing Adults
COLUMBUS - Thanks to a $25,000 grant from Attorney General Jim Petro, Crime Stoppers has created a statewide toll-free tip line and a Web site designed to help locate missing adults. "I am pleased that Crime Stoppers was able to use the money to quickly implement two very important tools," Petro said. "The tip line and Web site certainly will be helpful in solving crimes and locating missing persons." The statewide tip line, 1-888-400-TIPS, automatically will connect tipsters calling from Ohio to their local Crime Stoppers chapter 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many of the 18 Crime Stoppers affiliates throughout the state did not previously have the ability to man a tip line around the clock. The Web site, www.ohiomissingadults.com , will post information and pictures about missing adult Ohioans. All of the posted information will be added to the National Center for Missing Adults Web site as well. Citizens will be able to submit information about missing family members to the Ohio site, but nothing will be posted until it is confirmed by Crime Stoppers and the appropriate local law-enforcement agency. "On behalf of all Ohioans who are missing family members, I want to express my gratitude to Attorney General Petro for providing this assistance," said Kevin Miles, president of Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
