Under the MHFA program, loans up to $15,000 are available, with 15 years to repay, at interest rates varying from 3 to 11 percent, depending on the homeowner's income. It is responsible for the formation of the Cass County SALT Council (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together). A joint resolution indicates concern for the plight of older Americans and the advantages of involving seniors in appropriate volunteer tasks within law enforcement agencies. TRIAD developed from a concern about the unmet needs of seniors, who are a rapidly increasing segment of the population. It provides public education and local projects to meet these needs. Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO) Project Overview Introduction MSHO integrates Medicare and Medicaid financing and benefits and acute and long-term care services in a market-based managed care delivery system under a Medicare+Choice (M+C) contract between the federal government and the State of Minnesota. The State of Minnesota contracts with health plans to provide and manage health care and support services for seniors age 65+ in the seven-county metro area and in three rural counties in Minnesota. MSHO provides individualized care coordination to meet the chronic care needs of seniors. In September 2001, the state expanded the MSHO model to enroll people from 18 through 64 with physical disabilities in a program called Minnesota Disability Health Options (MnDHO). Nationally, MSHO is the first and largest state-sponsored demonstration that integrates Medicaid and Medicare for people in all settings. As a model that shows promise of meeting the chronic care needs of aging baby boomers, MSHO has attracted the interest of other states, providers, researchers, national organizations such as the American Association for Retired People and National Governors Association, and even other countries. Development of MSHO has been supported by grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Minnesota participates in the RWJF Medicare and Medicaid Integration Project (MMIP) a 10-state initiative focused on improvement of chronic care and administered by the Center on Aging, University of Maryland.

var sid = 454; var aid = 3; Senior dining escapes state cuts By Paul Maravelas Despite a 15 percent cut in state funding that took effect last July, senior dining and Meals on Wheels programs continue to provide regular service to those 60 years of age and older throughout Minnesota. The funding cut has been absorbed through increased contributions from clients, from local funding, and from cuts made in local program administrations. The nutrition programs are funded by the state and federal government, by the seniors who use them, and local contributors. Most of the funding is federal. For this reason, the state's 15 percent reduction didn't have much of an impact for Minnesota's senior nutrition programs. In McLeod County, the funding cut won't have a visible effect on senior dining or Meals on Wheels, though it's too early to tell if the cut will have a ripple effect, said Kate Selseth, director of the Mid-Minnesota Area Agency on Aging. Closure of under-used meal sites will probably be the first sign that the funding reduction is affecting services, Selseth says.
