Why a history of Adventism in Minnesota? Perhaps no finer reason than this: "We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history."
(Life Sketches of Ellen G. White, p. 96). History affirms our successes and
reminds us of our failures. Not understanding our failures dooms us to
repeat them. Failure to understand the past limits our vision for the future.
In these pages the history of Minnesota Adventism is painted upon the backdrop of the history of Minnesota. Such a perspective helps us understand the challenges facing our pioneers. Through this understanding we gain inspiration and courage to face what challenges us as Advent believers in the twenty-first century. The two Preambles tie Adventism in
Minnesota to Adventist history in general. Thus we are reminded that we are part of a larger historic movement. Part I deals with the beginnings of Adventism in Minnesota, against the backdrop of the historic settling of the state. In Part II we read of the rise of Adventist institutions in Minnesota. Part III consists of historic documents shedding additional light on our history, as well as documenting current events within the
