Building Referendum About our Schools Watertown-Mayer is proud of its quality school system, which provides excellent academic and extracurricular programs for students in Mayer, Minnetrista, Watertown, and neighboring areas. The district is organized into three schools: an elementary school for pre-kindergarten through grade 4, a middle school that includes grades 5-8, and a high school with grades 9-12. At the elementary level, Watertown-Mayer has made every effort to maintain effective class sizes for an optimal learning environment. The curriculum reflects sensitivity to cultural and gender diversity, as well as the remediation or enrichment needs of students. All students participate in physical education, music and computer literacy programs, which are taught by licensed specialists. Parents of kindergarten students may participate in either an all-day/every-day fee-based program or a three-day per week program. Project Discovery accommodates developmentally delayed preschoolers. The middle school emphasizes the development of the whole child and includes a wide variety of exploratory experiences that help children develop more mature interests, academic capabilities and athletic skills. The middle school curriculum features special education programs, computer skill development opportunities, integrated curricular units, advisory experiences, exploratory days and numerous support and remediation opportunities. Co-curricular activities include: band, choir, drama, athletics, student government and community service projects. A team-teaching model, which allows for coordinated planning and intervention, supports these successful programs. | |
