Nationalatlas.gov image with outline of region generally defined as central Minnesota Central Minnesota is the name of the region consisting of the central portion of the state of Minnesota . Although no specific boundaries of the region exist, most definitions of what makes up the region would generally consist of the vast swath of land north of Interstate 94 , east of U.S. Highway 59 , south of U.S. Highway 2 , and west of U.S. Highway 169 . The entire region is sometimes further divided into smaller regions named north-central Minnesota, south-central Minnesota, east-central Minnesota, and west-central Minnesota.

Geography
The geography of the central portion of Minnesota varies quite a bit, just as the geography of the entire state of Minnesota is quite varied from one location to the next. The northern portion of the region contains quite a few softwood forests, including the expansive Chippewa National Forest . The western and southern portions of the region, meanwhile, are dotted with rolling prairie , and as such, contain the largest agricultural operations in the region. Minnesota Floor Map Activity Title and Summary: Students will use materials and space provided to design a floor map of the State of Minnesota. Objective: 1. Students will creatively learn about the Physical geography of Minnesota.
2. Students will work cooperatively to design a map of Minnesota.
3. Students will develop spatial and relative location of Minnesota
landmarks and physical characteristics.
4. Students will understand alternative ways of showing proportions and and projections of physical characteristics. Management: Students will work in collaborative groups of 3 Materials: Each group will assigned a 3 X 4 space on classroom floor. Each group will be given Activity sheet with assignment information. What is Earth like? How are living and nonliving features?including people?distributed across its face? Why? So what? Exploring questions such as these is the business of geography ?literally, "earth writing." Geography is a huge, diverse subject. Because its focus is the world around us, it overlaps extensively with environmental education. Here are some suggestions for incorporating geography into environmental education and vice versa:
  • Emphasize systems and links. When you study a river, talk not just about its physical features, but where it comes from, where it flows to, what creatures use it, how it has been changed by humans. When you explore a culture, explore its relationship to the landscape around it. Personalize. As you study regions, help students see them as real places. Youth?tomorrow?s adults?will be more motivated to promote a positive future for Brazilian rain forests, Southeast Asian rivers, and African wildlife if they are more than just names or features on a map. Remember the fourth dimension.

See also: Rules and forms for Environmental Review of Feedlots Feedlots are the focus of the Generic Environmental Impact Statement on Animal Agriculture, along with the broader environmental, social and economic factors surrounding animal agriculture. Funded by the 1998 Minnesota Legislature, the study is being conducted because of the recent debate over the livestock-raising industry and will be used to shape future policy options.
